Really cozy place, offered really great quality sushi for pretty fair prices. Can also recommend the Korean style BBQ, especially when you go there with a bigger group of people.
This used to be one of the best places in Helsinki to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine in a traditional kabuki setting. However it has lost its soul in the recent years. The foods are way too overpriced while not offering that special factor anymore. The sushis were alright but other dishes were just mediocre. For example, the dip sauce for katsudon tasted exactly like the bottled sauce you can find in any Asian market. The udon noodles didn’t use the fresh udon but instant noodles. The staffs were also not very helpful nor attentive. There aren’t just enough reason to make me eager to come back again and try other foods.
An authentic Japanese restaurant experience in the middle of Helsinki. Definitely worth a visit, especially their yakiniku sets stand out. One star missing due to (sometimes extremely) slow servive.
Good food 🥘done as best as you can in Helsinki. I guess the lack of fresh produce makes them struggle a bit
Good food, moderate prices. Too little space, swt shabby interior. A typical Helsinki place.
Small restaurant, run by a family business. Very close to the city centre, it serves good sushi and has a wide menu, good for all tastes. A little expensive but worth a visit.
Both western and traditional tables. Sushi are not the best in town, but sukiyaki is very nice :-) Green tea is very tasty too. Not cheap.
If you feel like having an atmospheric dinner time with authentic Japanese cuisine, Kabuki may be the perfect place for that. The Katsudon and Umeshu I had were amazingly good, though Yakitori was quite pricey for its portion. In overall, it was such a lovely place.
We visited Kabuki on a Satuday afternoon. I recommend to make a reservation in advance as the restaurant doesn't have too many tables. Also, keep in mind that if you want to sit at the Japanese style tables, you will need to take off your shoes.
We ordered the Daruma special II meal which includes: sashimi, wakame salad, miso soup, and sukiyaki. Three different types of fish were served as sashimi. While the salmon was very fresh, the tuna and the white fish were slightly drier but good. The wakame salad seemed to be prepared on site as it taste crunchier and less sweet that the one that is sold as ready-made. The miso soup was nicely seasoned with fresh pieces of green onion and some soft tofu. The sukiyaki was prepared at our table by the waitress who nicely explained the proper way of enjoying eat. Although the sukiyaki did not have tofu or enoki mushrooms it was still sweet and very enjoyable; perfect for a winter afternoon dinner. My only complain would be that it was a bit cold inside the restaurant.
In brief: Kabuki provides authentic Japanese food beyond sushi in a original place with friendly service
A bit pricey, but oh, so worth it. I got in with my friend by pure luck - someone had cancelled their reservation when we came by to ask for a table. Since it's unlikely I'll get to visit again anytime soon, I had to try the whole course from appetizers to desserts. The meal cost me 48€ or so with plain water as my drink. My friend ordered hot sake as well, and I think I saw glasses of wine in other tables.
The food was good, although a bit exotic for someone who was eating Japanese for the first time (not including plain miso soup and sushi). The ice cream we got for dessert were flavoured "red bean" and "green tea" - surprisingly the bean one was closer to typical sweet ice creams while the tea-flavored had an adult taste to it. I loved it though.
Kabuki has an authentic feel to it, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The people stayed in their tables for a very long time, us included.
Great food but very oldish interior, authentic I think.
It really reminded me of Japan. I was in Japan for 3 months in 2014 and I have been looking for a real Japanese place where I could find more than sushi in Helsinki. This one has more variety of real Japanese food. I tried katsudon one of my favourite donburi (rice bowl). It really tasted like in Japan. Price was very good for lunch and reasonable amount of food!
