Host is awsome, he will go the extra mile to make ppl feel at home.he knows the city and the country very well and he can recommend decent place throughout the country on different budget and time limit. No guide book is needed if you have his number at hand.

I highly recommend this cozy guesthouse that has a lovely location. Most of the places in Gondar have loud music at night, but this place is quiet at night. The Wi-Fi usually works great and the staff are really helpful and friendly. And on top of it they can arrange all tours of the region (Simien Mountains, Danakil, etc)

Love this place! Great rates, great people, and great hosts. Yohannes will take care of anything you need as he is extremely resourceful. He knows everyone in the city and can set up tours as well as recommend the best places to eat. The staff is super nice and will assist you in whatever you need. Must stay if you are coming to Gondar!

Great place to stay whether you are a foreigner or Habesha. Yohannes is super resourceful and beyond gracious as a host. The house is walking distance from great food, great views, and historical landmarks such as the Debre Birhan Selassie Church. Very affordable rates as well as the best Wi-Fi in Gondar. Book a room here you will not regret it!

I would highly recommend Yohannes Guesthouse: it's well located, our room was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom kept clean, breakfast with coffee ceremony really tasty.. and there's also a living room and garden (complete with nightly campfire!) to hang out in. The main attraction though was the hospitality: Yohannes and his team really went above and beyond to make us feel at home and look after us. Yohannes was superb at making local recommendations, telling us about life in Ethiopia and making arrangements for tours/onward travel. I noticed he was equally helpful to other guests and tailored his service to their needs (we were 2 friends in our early 30s, there were other groups/singles/couples of varying ages and interests staying during our 5 nights). We had a ball!

Yohannes and Teddy are legends! We originally booked for one night, but stayed five. Teddy took us on a locals tour throughout Gondar, which led us to castles, tea and coffee ceremonies, the best fasting dish in Ethiopia, many monasteries, and a traditional Ethiopian dance club with MANY local drinks. HIGHLY recommend checking out the city with Teddy. He is the man. They also arranged a flawless trek to the Simien Mountains. Do this.
Beyond that, their hospitality at the hostel was spectacular. The breakfast was made with love and the nighttime fires are not to be missed. Can't wait for my return. Thanks again, amigos!response / report this review -

Yohannes Guest House is a fantastic place to stay in Gondar. It is in a quiet area close by foot to the main attractions and the main city centre. Both Yohannes and Teddy are exceptional hosts that make you feel welcome the moment you arrive. They are very helpful and will make sure you have a nice stay at the guest house. I definitively recommend this place to anyone travelling through Gondar. Don't hesitate to stay there!
