Really excellent place to stay to visit the park. Nice little bungalows. You get a hot water bottle to take to bed when it's cold!
Nothing compares to that place. Paradise.
Simien Lodge aka the highest lodge in Africa, has some.amazing views, food is really good and rooms are spacious. You can start your hike to the Simien Mountains from the lodge.
Fantastic location, wonderful staff and food.
Wonderful lodge Well appointed rooms and nice hot showers. Breakfast could be better!
Loved the views, bar and atmosphere, but the food wasn’t the best
It was a plesure to visit Africas highest hotel. You need to watch the sunset and even more the sunrise. The Lodges are located close to the entrance of the simien mountain national park. And it was a realy greate experiance. The Lodges are rally nice, clean (compared to african standard), well equiped and offer good food. The Service was one of the beste we experienced in our three week roundtrip.
Be aware of the tempreture dropping a lot at night time due to the altitude of 3300 m. You will need some warm clothes ;-)
Sure the prices are much higher here than outside the national park and closer to normal infrastructure. But if you visit this place it normaly is not because of the nice rooms but because of the estonishing natrure out in the park.
Wonderful place great staff!
This is a great up market lodge situated in the Simien National Park. Book yourself in for at least three days for a great photographic experience. Enjoy watching the Gelada who are grass eating baboons. In fact get out and go for long walks but beware the weather can change rapidly from sunshine to rain and cold, therefore be prepared. For another trip one can travel deep into the National Park in an attempt to find the Walia Ibex, they are difficult to see and photograph, because the enjoy the mist and fog.
For a long walk up to Ras Deshan beware of altitude sickness, this walk is only suitable for those who are very fit and well equipped.
Trekkers used to ask me if they could walk down to the Tekeze dam, well that's a very special two possibly three day walk. An experienced guide is essential be warned this is an arduous trek, through tough country. Be prepared for baboons and leopards.
Enjoy the lodge which is arguably the highest in Africa, I heard there is a higher lodge in the Atlas mountains.
In spite of its higher price, it is a perfect place to see the scenic Simien Mountains, and the Ethiopian endemic - Gelada Baboon
Decent place at a most scenic place.
Very nice lodge with a good food & service.
It was very cold at night.
No electricity during the daylight and after 21:30.
Only 5 years old, this lodge is very dirty and rundown. Keep in mind that a double bedroom in this place costs around 140$ per night, so you demand it to be at least decent.
The rooms were freezing (what they mention in their website about solar energy heating does not exist). The showers were also cold, but the worse was all the dirt in the water, it was like black warms coming out of the little holes.
We were also very upset with the meal: it was 12$ for a poor set menu of "farangi"! That's 7 times more expensive than we had paid for all the other meals in Ethiopia! We found out that there was actually a second menu, for the local guides and scouts, with ethiopian food we loved so much, but if we wanted to order from there we had to pay more!
Other than that, the view is amazing, and the hikes in the Simien are a must do in Ethiopia!
