Good service and much friendly people in this hotel than any hotel around the City. Happy being here.
We loved the room! But the shower was a mess and the food was terrible, go to eat outside..
in short:
Cozy rooms.
Slow wifi in the rooms.
No hot water (though they claim there is)
Price does not include any meal.
The hotel serves as a harbor/house for scammers and hustlers.
We arrived to bahir dar and we knew before that NGG was a good budget hotel. Recomnded in several websites (Israeli & international), as well in the Brandt guide book. The moment we stepped off the bus half a dozen locals surrounded us with offers to carry our bags and to take us to hotels.
One of them (Johanes) said he would take us with a free "bajaj" ride to the NGG hotel. The guy said it includes breakfast and gave us a price (280 birr), yet when we arrived the price was 300 instead of 280 and breakfast was not included. We agreed still because it was a great price, and we knew it was recommended in numerous places.
After showing us the room, we checked the shower for hot water, the water was
Cold but we were reassured that it takes 3 minutes to get warm.
In the NGG coffee room we signed a deal with the guy who brought us to the hotel to see the temples and the "blue nile falls".
We didnt have the entire amount so we gave half and we agreed to pay the rest the next day.
After walking around the city we returned to the room and we didn't have hot water, no matter how long we waited.
The next day in the morning we talked to the receptionist who sent someone after we finished our breakfast.
Suddenly there were hot water yet we had to leave.
They guy (Johanas) came to the hotel and walked with us to the boat. He didnt came with us on the tour, although this is what we thought we payed him for (to be our guide). He said he will see us when we come back and we paid him the rest of the money.
When we got back from the tour he wasn't at the dock. We asked around and some locals told us he will meet us at the hotel after lunch, within an hour.
He never showed up.
When we asked the hotel workers (receptionist) if they could call him, they said they didn't have his phone number (though they first pretended not to know to who we were referring). Also the shift manager couldn't help us..it was as they never met him. Some of them even giggled when they heard the situation.
Only after we talked with the hotel manager (the second time, and in very stern voices), we were added to another tour (an hour late, which made us rush the tour due to sunset and a lack of light).
When we came back we didnt have any water in the shower (cold or hot)
We asked about it and some guy (i guess the shift manager) told us to wait 5 minutes.
Water did come back but only cold!!
I went down to reception to ask for hot water and she said someone will come soon.
After 20 minutes No one came!! I checked the water which was still cold. I went down to reception and demanded that someone would come at once (a moment after she told me I didn't pay for the night yet..)
Someone came with me..and tada..there were hot water. My wife went into the shower and after 3 minutes they ran out/turn cold again.
To conclude:
Don't do any business with anyone about tours. Just pay as you go (on the docks, to a taxi to go to the falls)
Know what you pay for in the hotel. Cheap, horrible service.
Ask for the upper rooms, with no noise. Be sure the shower works and that the wifi is reachable from the room. If you are able to do so, congratulations, you get a great value for money place. Otherwise it can be not that good. Food is not that great too.
Nice place to stay in this Hotel, there is shuttle, fair price, clean room, there is hot shower, good hospitality, WiFi, if u need there is down stair club and better security.. thanks
Sitio normal con agua caliente y wifi. No es un palacio, pero es habitable
Cheap and decent rooms, bit noisy though.
Great place ! It costs 230 bir for double room. There is hot water and sometimes good wifi. The only problem is the location near construction area and there is also club in the entrance of the hotel.
