  Marvellous trip to Danakil Depression with GET from Mekele (Feb 2017)
  
  I did a 3 night trip to Danakil depression with GET (GreatEthiopianTours) based in Mekele with a group of friends. Issac accompanied us all the time and was a great guide. Everything was well organized. Drivers were perfect and very nice guys. Food was prepared at the different stops by the kitchen crew who accompanied us during the whole trip. We visited the volcano Erta Ale, walked up there at night (3-4 hours, bring solid shoes), slept a few hours on matresses outside, watched the sunrise and walked back to the basecamp, all accompanied by two local guides.
  
  The next stop was the salt lake Afdera where we spend the afternoon swimming and relaxing, visited the salt production site and stayed overnight on wooded beds outside.
  
  The next drive took the whole day to bring us close to Dallol. We visited the salt desert there at sunset and slept in the small village that marked the end of the road, again outside on wooden beds. The next day brought us to the sulphuric area of Dallol, an amazing spot, and the salt fields nereby. The trip ended that evening after driving back to Mekele.
  
  I can recommend GET and Isaac and the whole team warmly. Very nice and pleasant company, well organised. We also went out with them the night before because we were in Mekele before the start of the trip. They even provided us with a free tour of the city and a trip to nearby rock-carved churches to give us some programme while waiting for the beginning of the tour.
  
  The price was also fair (500 USD per person), so do not hesitate to book with them.

  I did my trip to Danakil Depression and Erta Ale with this Great Ethiopia Tours, my tour was orgnanised by Isaac and he was very helpful. The trip was fantastic, the guide, the cook and the driver were very nice people and also provided a lot of information about geology and cultural background. The guide always made sure we were safe.
  The trip to the volcano was very tiring but getting there and seeing the lava flowing from the top of the crater was priceless. The rest of the trip is more easy going, just very hot, but it was a great experience to sleep in the outside on a village in the desert.
  I absolutely recommend this company to do this tour.
