its the 1st church of 1st king here
Very informative and wonderful place to learn as well as see some history of Ethiopia. The guide was good and the drive up was relaxing. View was not clear due to fog so pick a fogless day to go. Cost is 200 Birr for the visit and then you tip the guide as he/she is a volunteer.
Fabulous place.. you have to visit this place.. you can see the whole city from here.
Located on the top of the Entoto Hill. One of the oldest and sacred churches in Ethiopia
እንጦጦ ማርያም
peaceful
Very old historical church the drive up the hill is beautiful
Entoto id some of the most outstanding views of Addis. From the grounds of the church to the grounds of the old palace it offers hidden gems and another aspect to Addis.
Highest point and best clean air and breezee aroma of eucalyptus trees.Don't forget to visit the old and temporary palace of Menilik ll.
It was raining and we were short on time, kinda not worth the trek, especially if it isn't a clear time of day.
Going up to the Mount Entoto offers a great view above the city and it is quite funny and possible without expensive taxis: Take a minibus to Arat Kilo and change there for the minibus up to Shiromeda. In Shiromeda, ask the people and find a connection to „Gusqua“. In my case, this was a very old Toyota with a box on his back (even for more passengers). This “car” brought me up to Gusqua, where I found another one of this kind to climb the hill and survive the serpentines up to the Entoto Mariam Church (St. Mary Church). Actually, going like this is quite cheap (between 2 and 5 Birr for each part in 2013) and the contract drivers were so pushy that I tried to avoid them.
At the Church up there is no view, but if you like to walk a bit, take your time and go back the street and walk down, back to Gusqua, which allows you to enjoy the spectacular view above the city.
Everything is in Amharic so its difficult without an english speaking guide who charged us 30 Birr. Nothing very exciting as far as the Church premises goes. The air is a bit thinner here because of the altitude so obese tourists need to watch out.
Lovely church and very interesting museum of Menelik II artifacts.
