Wide open space with live cultural music show everyday except Wednesdays. Good local food too. You can enjoy the combo specials for a group that comes in a vegetarian and non vegetarian options if you are in groups. And for a meat lovers try the kitfo. A bit loud music on the downside though where it gets difficult to discuss with each other during the performances.

At the end of the performances an older singer-dancer came on stage. I was later told he is a locally famous hip hop artist, though the show felt more amateurish. This man kept making threatening gesture toward me for not joining him on stage. The white woman with us likes such activities, and had already interacted with a female dancer on the floor, so she participated. He also tried to pull onto his feet a much older white man who had a prosthetic knee. I removed the performer’s grip from his arm before he pulled him off the chair onto the floor. At that the performer stepped away with the woman and looked me in the eyes making a cut-your-throat gesture. I stood up. Our hosts tried to convince me his threatening gesture was just a joke. While on the stage he kept staring at me making cut-your-throat gestures. I pointed this out to our Ethiopian hosts and then I left the performance. I walked outside - the air was fresh as it had rained and I felt calm and comfortable. I was followed by one of our hosts who kept telling me to be more open to new cultural experiences - which was irritating as he had no idea about my background and experiences - just because I had no will to be dragged onto a public stage to dance, and repeatedly denied to me that those were threatening gestures that we all saw so clearly. So I asked please tell what this gesture means? He would not say. It was all rather offensive - just because I *politely* declined to dance on stage again and again, and removed the performer’s grip on the forearm of the older man. I did not feel I had to be forced to dance on a stage in public, singled out to do so - and I felt I had to leave instead of watching the performer on stage make cut-your-throat gestures at me. The apologist said the performer was just trying to get me to go on stage by making me “jealous” with those gestures. That was not the right English word. To me that sounded like the bullies in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey who insult people they were sweet with a minute before once realizing the tourist isn’t buying because that treatment makes some Westerners feel guilty so then they’ll buy to prove they not the bad people they were just insulted as being.
Anyway, I still recommend this great place (we were the only obvious foreigners though it seemed like a tourist spot) for traditional food, drink, and ambiance. Go there! I’m told there’s one in Bahir Dar, too.
