Quite a large airport. Ethiopian airlines seems to run the show at this terminal. There is a London cafe and Bar which costs 25 US dollars for food and drinks. Free airport WiFi available but the service fluctuates. Great stop over for Cape town or Lagos. Also has free drinking water at 3 different temperatures now that's a first.
I had spent several hours in this airport waiting for my connection, it was nice experience. Another time I had stopover more than 8 hours though Ethiopia Airlines and they gave free hotel, free visa entry and lunch. Overall it was nice experience. there is a place for muslims to pray even-though it is very small, the duty free shop prices are very reasonable at that time.
Very Important airport junction for African countries. Flights to all destination for African countries are available from here. The airport is very small and due to same the there are huge pressures of passengers from different destination of world. The airport building and area are being expanded now days to handle huge number of passengers.
I spent a whole day here waiting for my connecting flight and I don't have anything to complain about. The WC facilities are clean. There are various restaurants at the international terminal. They have reclining benches where you can take a nap. Security is good. The view of the runway is magnificent as well.
It's not O'Hare or Dallas. Which is good. The boarding times are general, but get there and be ready. You walk out to the plane, which is just part of the experience. Try not to get too caught up in the chaos and just enjoy the environment. Be sure to check on your bags to be sure they are checked all the way through to your destination, actuallybe sure to check several times.
This airport is not good. The wifi is terrible and there is nowhere to exchange currency past security. One guy offered to take all my money in exchange for $20 USD. That's a SCAM and they should have a currency exchange. Taxis are horribly expensive here.
The only reason they get a 2 stars is because getting a visa is easy.
Worse airport ever. Above being overwhelmed by the number of people it is dangerous. No possibility to buy some food or water once you've been through the security check. That's so bad because Ethiopian Airlines is such a great company. Make all your possible to avoid Addis Airport.
The airline is great, affordable and stuff treat you well. However the airport is a mess. It is very crowded and lacks order. You can easily miss your flight
Decent airport with a few resturants and two lounges. Lots of underutilized space that can up the appeal if adequately used. Staff was extremely friendly. Looking forward to what lies ahead!
This airport has a huge barrage of lackluster everywhere. Airports can be fairly simple if done right, even with a low budget. But this place has it the wrong way. Overloaded security checks are unnecessary. The policies too. First, when we came we had to go out of the airplane into the ground for a bus to pick us up and not knowing where to go. Rewind to go in, only the passengers on a flight can go into the airport first. They're very cautious about everything. Arguments everywhere. Food prices were high but I could deal with that. I saw a mad New Yorker here and a pissed off French dude there. It was insane an inadequately overpacked.
The worst airport I have been to in my travels across nearly 80 countries. The smoking areas are poorly insulated so the whole terminal smells like cigarette smoke. My eyes started burning so badly. The dining options are even more over-priced than your average airport for terrible food. The shopping is a joke - all sorts of random junk being sold for many times what you find in any market - right down to the word Ethiopia being written on random objects like shopping carts and russian vodka to be sold as a souvenir. No place to dispose of liquid bottles at the secondary security, so people just started piling up their water bottles on the floor, and the temporary toilets are just the icing on the cake. The best part was having to transfer from the domestic terminal to the international terminal. No signs at all so I just randomly made my way to the road and then all the way through the parking. Just awful, awful, awful.
This airport is a nightmare, there is no organization at all. I was supposed to be at gate 8 at 23.10 (29th of July) to fly to Paris and I took the same queue (the one for gate 8) at 22.45 as my friends when a mean guy told me that I should go to another place. I insisted saying my friends are on the queue and he took my passport and tickets, I asked him to give me back my papers and he told me he has every right even the one of having me miss my plane. Then I went to the place he told me, and 5 minutes later someone took me back to the original queue I wanted to go. I'm really disappointed to the way I was treated, threatened and handled here. If it is the way Ethiopia is welcoming tourists I have no intention of coming back being threatened like this is the worst I have ever seen in any airport in the world.
This is a very over-crowded airport with limited capacity for passengers. People were sitting and sleeping on the floor all over the terminal waiting for flights. Restaurants also very limited, although the London Pub had a good menu selection. London Pub also has free WiFi, but we found it very unreliable. The restrooms were not in good shape.
I call it Africa's best. I will give 5 Stars If the duty free shop employee's stoped hiding the Black Label whiskey's. Always out. and the airport needs more duty free shops and more businesses and clean restrooms.
The worst airport on earth. You can't tell who's the thief and who's the employee. The employees need more training. They have the worst customer service. First time going back home after more than a decade, the airport is terrific from inside to outside. Full of thieves. Be careful at the airport
I flew here as a stopover on my way to Kilimanjaro. The airport gets pretty busy in the morning when I arrived and please bring your own toilet paper here. The bathrooms are few and I noticed that when people do find a stall, they have to search for toilet paper. You can try finding janitors to give you a roll but that is if you can track them down.
There are enough stores to keep you occupied as you are browsing but once you pass customs there are no stores available so you need to buy water beforehand (that's assuming security lets you bring water over).
They are expanding the airport so hopefully the logistics is better.
One of the best airports in Africa Bole international airport is currently in an expansion project which will enable it to host more than 20,000,000 passengers per year.
Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. One of Africa's largest and oldest airport which is currently operational but under expansion construction. It is also the Hub of Ethiopian Airlines, which is state owned. The air port is a hub for both International and Local flights to and from Ethiopia.
Not great, but they didn't lose our luggage and the restrooms in terminal 2 were functional, so it has that going for it. The lines for visas are somewhat confusing and when we were there they didn't take credit cards for the $50 per person visa, so we had to cough up dollars. The luggage carts are free, which is good, since the parking lot is a long way down some ramps. It's tricky to navigate a fully loaded cart through the throngs of people waiting at the bottom of the ramp. I could see that they are working on a newer terminal, which looks bigger than Terminal two. It looks like it won't be done for a while, though.
Terminal 2 has interesting gift shops and duty free shops. But once you pass the x-ray to the gates there's nothing on the other side, not even a restaurant or a water fountain. Just very improvised restrooms. So, be sure to do whatever you want before you enter the long and slow x-ray line. There's no formal going back, though they'll let you back if you look desperate enough.
