First and again three weeks later last nights dinner in Madrid. Homey and staff was incredible. Food was delicious. Best monkfish.

I would give this place 10 stars if I could.
Honestly - having just finished a tour of northern Spain (Gijón, Bilbao and San Sebastián), this is the best meal we had start to finish - including two dinners at Michelin star restaurants.
The rigatoni is exquisite, the tomato salad is simply amazing, and the desert - DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE DESERT.

Another well modernised Madrid establishment.
The host/owner is very friendly and stands by the door making his Vermouth cocktails which coincidentally are a must; delicious and intoxicating. If you cant handle your liquor stop after two.
The starters are nice but not great. We had Razor clams and croquettas all of which I have had better somewhere else. The star of the meal are the mains - the more traditional the better. The runny seafood paella was unlike any other I have ever had and the madrid chicken stew equally as hearty, but perhaps more of a winter dish.
The staff however are not so friendly and not eager to recommend much. They are inattentive, often rude and feel like they look they're nose down on you.
The starters and staff lose them one star. But mains, cocktails and Decor make it well worth a visit and its also very centrally located.response / report this review -

We came to this place on a recommendation and we're not disappointed. Our host was extremely welcoming and fit us in even though we didn't have a reservation.
We had the fried calamari to start which was delicious. We opted for fish, trying the Merluza (hake) and San Martin (john dory). Both were prepared perfectly. We would definitely recommend this place to others. Gracias!response / report this review -

What a great place. Firstly, the restaurant is simply gorgeous! Then you get some real, kind, generous, tasty food. And that vermouth! What a great moment, can't wait to go back.

This place is phenomenal and cozy, the calamari I order were off the charts good. This place is also kids friendly and our waiter took the initiative to modify one of our plates to accomodate our children. I will definitely recommend this restaurant.

Second oldest taberna in Madrid and they're loyal to authenticity. Simply but deliciously prepared Spanish dishes. Ambiance is cozy and pretty. All meals of the day are served.

A lifetime classic in the city centre of Madrid. Do not hesitate to taste delicious Spanish food watered with oaked red wine. Wonderful and very kindly service. Will come back as soon as I have a compromise to walk some guiris round the city ;)

Good Spanish food and wine. Beautiful interior. Seems set up for tourists so not absolutely authentic. Good seafood paella for two.
