Un clásico en Almería. Obligada parada. Recomiendo probar el americano tanto de verano como de invierno. La jábega está muy buena en verano, ya que es como una granizada.

    .

    An interesting late-night spot.

This is another of those Must-Visit places in Almeria.

You've had your meal, been to a bar, and to end the evening you come here, in the centre of town, and sit at one of the outside tables belonging to the Kiosko Amalia. You can't sit inside as there is no inside.

    :-)

    That's part of its charm.

A nice view is guaranteed, as the magnificent 19th-century town-houses of the Almerian middle-classes are right here, and illuminated at night to display their glories.

    And what do you order?

The traditional order, everybody of every age has them (well every age to be out at this time of night!) is one of two things. An "Americano" or a "Quemaillo".

The "Americano" is most certainly NOT what you would get in Starbucks.

It isn't coffee at all. It's hot milk with cinnamon and a liqueur - sort of like rum. And the "Quemaillo" is creamy coffee with brandy and sugar, which is quemado - burnt - at your table by the waitress. Rather like the raisins on the Christmas pudding.

Both an acquired taste in my view, but there are enormous numbers of people every evening who have acquired it OK!

A typical Almerian spot to experience.
