Ahmad Tusun was 23 when he died in 1816 after contracting the plague. He is buried in the family tomb, Hosh al-Basha.

During restoration of 1998-2002 a vast cistern for the storage of water was uncovered. Three huge piers held up a doubled-arcaded space, nine meters deep, capable of holding 455k liters of water, which could distribute 4k cups daily.
