So there are 2 hospitals by this name, the old one & the new one ( called the Fransawy or French Kasr alainy)If you' re a local, you know the deal, move on.
The Old one:If you're a tourist don't go unless God forbid you need immediate help. It's a humungous facility, and it isn't fair to generalize. The jist of it is, it is a compound of teaching hospitals attached to the Cairo University faculty of medicine. Doctors vary between innocent interns and highly qualified ones. Services are generally poor in Egypt, it is totally free except many supplies are not present, and you're expected to tip nurses sometimes to get them to do their job. Many departments are working to improve, but they are not done. Generally the hospital serves under privileged communities and acts as a tertiary point of care for the entire country with unfairly limited resources, many many great doctors , a poor system in place and poor accountability.
The Faransawy: Also attached to the faculty, paid service, highly qualified doctors, average nurses, average resources, not 5 stars , 3 at best , not a high quality service, you will not be spoiled, but will do the job for a fair fee. Good outpatient clinics, best doctors for an affordable fee. Good emergency rooms.
A must say is : ICU services are really good in both .
Generally: emergency services / public ambulances in egypt are very slow & personnel are not qualified, if in an emergency get a paid private ambulance from a well known private hospital, then think later. be careful with blood transfusions in Egypt, HCV is endemic make sure the blood is tested.
Generally, be safe, be healthy, buy high quality travel health insurance. Hopefully you'll never need to see a doctor except for a check up.

Don't be fooled by the fancy title, it's is still a governmental hospital at the end. Many medications are missing, nothing is on schedule and many services are below average.
Though few medical personnel are doing their best amongst that faulty system.

I recently, a few days ago, was admitted to your hospital for emergency treatment although i am grateful to the medical care, however most of your services are horrible and most of your nurses are audacious in their adamant demands to be tipped!!!

Nothing is on shedule like everything in Egypt what should take 10 minutes can take an hour plus many medications are not available and your nurses and doctors are audacious in demanding that the patients get the medications!!! other wise you are informed nicely that you can send someone from the hospital; but HAVE to tip. Many of your nurses feel no shame at all coming up to patients and DEMANDING tips!!! Not to mention the many free loaders that came just before breakfast, lunch and dinner were served rested ate and then disappeared!!! this happened the 3 days I was admitted. It is sad that such a prestigious hospital would sink so low in standards and cause more stress to patients instead of proper care. It was a horrible experience especially that your staff believe they have the right to DEMAND tips and act indifferently to patients!!! I have been to many good hospitals in my life time due to my health issues but honestly this is the worse experience ever! Shame on the management for allowing these atrocities to continue unchecked and undealt with. You are supposed to be doctors that took oaths to help and care not run things like a kiosk in a vegetable market. Shame.
