Great collection. But i was just wonder why the security didn't try harder to stop people from touching the collection and taking ohoo with flash. I mean i think its better to control ourselves little bit from touching it so it will survive longer and more people can enjoy it too.

Beautiful Museum, you do not need a guide unless you are not adventurous or just not able to explore the museum by yourself. All of the antiquities are displayed with explanations in English. There are Facts listed on almost every display. I was amazed at the size and detail of some of the pieces. If you love Egyptian culture and history this is a MUST see. Besides visiting the Pyramids and sites, this is museum is rich in culture and history. Must See.

The Egyptian Museum holds amazing antique artifacts from the Pharaoh's period. The museum is massive and over 1 hundred thousand items are on display. It's good to have a guide who can show you the main attractions and complete it within an hour. My guide told me that if I view every item for a minute, it's going to take me 4 months to view all things there.
The Royal Mummies Hall displays some amazing mummies. A must visit though it charges an extra 100 Egyptian Pound.

Why 2 stars? Looks like an abandoned place. You see boxes everywhere and most of the things are not showing an explanation. They force you to hire a guide. There is no audio guide either, and museum map or explanation flair are not provided.
Still YOU SHOULD GO! Definitely the sensations you experience there, if you like history, are amazing. Just be prepared if you can. Paying for the royal mummies is definitely worth it. Take your STUDENT CARD, discount is big.
Not 1 star because the place is awesome.
Not 3 stars because is not what I expected from an international museum.

Very rich museum with amazing history and artifacts. The museum will be moved to the grand museum currently being build by the pyramids so better harry and visit. King Tut’s exhibit is incredible along with many other collections spanning between 7 thousands years of history. You will need at least few hours to go through so make sure you have enough water and snacks to keep you going.

Enough material in this museum to warrant an entire lifetime of study. Fascinating museum. The museum's condition is not good. It's not air conditioned. It is not clean. Egyptians can't maintain anything properly unfortunately.

A really fascinating and interesting place to be in. It's definitely a must if you're visiting Cairo.
Unfortunately there were no audio guides available (at least not for a solo traveller), but you can pay for a certified guide: they're really good and you can possibly find one in your Native language.
I highly recommend a guide because the museum doesn't have much information labeled.

Number one museum to visit, especially Royal Mummies hall, but needs to be rearranged, as well they should bring more interactivity and new technologies to make it more entertaining and interesting, especially for teenagers or kids. Lots of monuments are missing the description, as well they can sell audio guides or make colorful brochures on entrance. All the cafes and restaurants inside are closed, though definitely they could have have lots of customers.

I could visit this place over, and over again. The history is amazing and seeing the amazing architecture and art from the various dynasties of Egypt is unforgettable. It is a shame, but understandable, that you are not allowed to take photos. The only let down was that there was no guide available and the security within was lacking - many guests were touching and sitting on exhibits. Overall, this is a great experience and all should visit, whether or not you are into history.

Historical museum, grandiose and majestic! This museum is impressive in every sense. It covers every possible era of Pharaonic history and has an incredible amount of items on display. It's also an architectural wonder and immense in size. Memorable visit which will leave you with a want for more!
