Poor service. Went around 10 in evening, two people, and wanted hot chocolate because we already had dinner. The waiter created fuss saying that it was a restaurant and food must be ordered. Ironically because the name literally says "cafe". Later the waiter agreed to bring hot chocolate. But we left.

I went here twice, first for casual dinner and the second one for farewell dinner and drink with friend from the hostel nearby. Nice place, nice food, and nice staff too.

I am not sure why all the high rating for this place.
Sure it is a very old coffee shop in the heart of Cairo with lots of history and..
Still it is old and very dirty.
Don't recommend.

A very pleasant and quiet place to relax. The morbid atmosphere that this restaurant-cafe has still preserved is a true boon in this city.
And the chicken was really tasty and absolutly good prices for that town !

Feels like a place stuck in history, open the doors to a different century, pretty cheap, service is good. If I could add one thing it'd be some music. Pretty good all in all.

Filthy place and full of smoke. Owner unprofessional and unclean. The food is terrible and pricy per Egyptian standards. Don't waste your time/money!

The worst cup of liquid that's claimed to be coffee. I also had a piece of baked dough that's supposedly crossaint. Absolutely terrible place. Being founded in 1908 is absolutely not enough to give them the edge they need to stay in business. I was excited that as an Egyptian I'll be having coffee at an authentic place rather than the westernized coffee shops we all go to these days and I hate to say that I'm very disappointed.

Nice place to visit. But only once as a historic sight. Very slow service, average menu. Definitely if you are in a hurry and want to grab a quick coffee, don't choose this place, as you will loose couple of hours.

If you go don't plan to eat, OK-ish for drinks.
The poor vestiges of a gloriously intellectual melting pot, one can only regret the lack of interest to invest in this landmark of Cairote history. Food is awful: veggies from a cheap frozen pack, overcooked chicken and artichokes are raw! There is not much available from the menu btw and why bother: as you can see from my pictures this place is not popular and we arrived around 1pm
what a shame: it could be a vibrant and cool place as so many establishments nowadays have become in the world. This is supposed to be the Egyptian version of Les Deux Magots and Cafe De Flore in Paris- and it could not be any further from that.

Honestly, I would neer go again if the owner does not tell waiters to be polite and professional.

Why would a waiter ever tell me "I turned a blind eye as you did not order food at the time"?!

Seriously, would a waiter fail to recognise the difference between mint tea and earl grey? Or swap a tea cup with a coffee one when I asked for a tea pot? He is not a newbie waoter by the way Not even smiling or showing care for some customers like me perhaps because I am a young person and they expect a certain age category.. I don't know what would ever come up to their mind!

Those people do not deserve to work at such an iconic place of Cairo.

Worst experience I had in a cafe..

A historical place where all the intellectuals of Egypt used to sit there including the Nobel Prize Winner Naguib Mahfouz. They have some Egyptian dishes. It is a good food in general but the service needs a lot of improvements.
