  Samen met mij vrouw een week gespendeerd in de Shiripuno lodge. Wij waren de enige gasten en na een lange bootrit komen wij daar aan. Een heerlijk plek heel ver in de Amazone. De eigenaar (fernando) had voor ons een vogelgids geregeld. Hel aardige man maar wist niet van vogels en kon ze ook niet vinden. Elke dag drie á vier uur door de Amazone lopen en maar 1 vogel zien. Hij wist dan ook niet eens wat het was. Op een andere dag met Fernando mee, hij is een prima gids en heeft ons veel laten zien. Echter je ziet hem alleen met het eten en verder is hij alleen met zijn eigen onderzoeken bezig en ziet zijn klanten dus niet eens staan. Wij waren dus opgezadeld met een vogelgids die eigenlijk geen vogelaar was. Erg jammer! In de lodge is alles zeer primitief en in erbarmelijke staat. Hier zou echt iets aan gedaan moeten worden. De kok en de bediening en het andere personeel waren perfect. Heerlijk eten! Kort gezegd: als je diep in de amazone wil zijn zonder massa toerisme en lekker wil eten, dan moet je hier heen. Als je wildlife wil zien vraag dan naar een goede gids anders is het weggegooid geld. (100 euro per dag pp)

  I have been to Shiripuno Lodge a couple different times and each time I go I am BLOWN AWAY by something new and unexpected. Whether its a new bird, mammal, amphibian, reptile, fish, insect, plant, fungus or friend..Shiripuno always delivers an unforgettable experience. Jarol is a top-tier guide and passionate natural and cultural conservation advocate, which the world desperately needs more of. His passion for the Yasuni wilderness and intimate knowledge of its flora and fauna and cultural heritage is unparalleled, and he and other guides offer a once in a lifetime encounter in a truly unique atmosphere and environment. I will be back soon and cant wait to discover something new and unique in the wilds of Yasuni!

  National Geographic declares there is no place more wild and extreme than the Yasuni and I declare there is no forest guide as legit and badass as Fernando Vaca. I met him when I was 10, and 11 years later I made the trip back out to Ecuador to see him at the Shiripuno Lodge. He is the Forest Father, a jungle scholar, the Captain Jack Sparrow of the Shiripuno. He knows this place and he will show you the amazing animals and plants that live here.
  
  The Shiripuno Lodge is a rugged outpost in the heart of the jungle. This is base camp, your temporary home in the jungle, and from here you'll range along machete-cut trails and canoe down silty tributaries of the Amazon. We even innertubed; there is nothing more surreal than innertubing in the freakin' jungle! It's far from modern civilization but it shares borders with the Waorani natives; Fernando's friendship with the nearby tribe connects the two worlds. It isn't easy--I don't think anyone looking for what's truly wild expects luxury--but it's comfortable. There are hot meals, fresh water, candle-lit evenings, hammocks, real beds with sheets and mosquito nets, and good people.
  
  My advice: Do your research. Be smart about the clothes and gear you bring. It is so, so worth having the right socks (smart wool!), good binoculars, and a solid flashlight.

  Remote, Simple true Wilderness. No electricity, No Internet, No Radio, No Television. Off the grid, real deal.
