This National Park is amazing. Be sure to bring your own water and food for the day. It rains a lot up here and get very cold so dress appropriately. Wear a good pair of hiking shoes.

Excellent place for hiking or doing small routes; you can see lagoons, forests, caves and animals in the wild in the area; The entrance to the park is free but is recommended that the person who has not good physical condition is accompanied by someone who has already done route previously and the signs unfortunately do not guide in the best way, although if they were located throughout the journey the road is not clear and must be registered in the booth located in the entrance so that the park rangers can be awaited. It is recommended to bring water, umbrellas, food and be well sheltered as it is 3951 meters high. They should improve the signage in the place to be able to guide you in the best way.

Beautiful park! Really hard to get to unless you book a tour with a private driver. They say buses come regularly, but we had to hitchhike out of there after waiting for an hour for the bus. The park itself is gorgeous and the trails are well marked! The people in the main office are helpful enough though not super friendly to foreigners. The welcome center and the bathrooms near it are clean.

This park is incredibly beautiful with such serenity and tranquility. It's a great place to get away from everything with such unique landscapes.
But my girlfriend and I got robbed on Route 3/Blue trail! It was extremely scary as we were in the middle of nowhere and couldn't run for help. We also learned other friends had been close to getting robbed on the same trail, but ran away quick enough.
It's an amazing place, just be careful on the Blue Trail.

Incredible scenery. Weather is variable, so be ready for fog, rain and cold. Park is beautiful in any weather. High altitude (around 4,000 m) so give yourself plenty of extra time. Great hikes!

It is a national park. Close to Cuenca so if you are visiting the city this should be on your list. The hiking is easy most trails around the refuge located by the highway. Plan half a day. Of course you can do much more if you are into serious hiking. Check their website for info and maps.

A protected reserve near Cuenca unique with its natural beautiful views and small lakes. Temperature drops sometimes near to 0 C, hiking as well as tracking long distances are mostly the activities done. You can reach from Cuenca's bus station in short time using the bus. Guides available for any info or help.

It's very easy to go there from Cuenca. You can take a bus from the terminal for 2.5 dollars, or you can take a regular bus number 3, it will get you out of the city. There you can hitchhike, it's so easy in Ecuador. And safe as well. You will get there in an hour in total. And Cajas national is amazing. There are so many different routes. Lakes, forests, mountains. Don't be stupid like me, bring sunscreen. I got a sunburn there. It's 4000 meters above the sea level. It can get pretty cold without the sun, but when the sun is out, it's very hot.

We had an amazing hike with Flavio from Polylepis tours as our guide. He was fantastic and went out of his way to tell us all about the surroundings, animals living there, the environment, and the plants (he even knew their Latin names!) traditionally used by the natives. The park has an impressive collection of lakes and ponds which produces a biotope which is unique to behold. Regardless of the somewhat bad weather we all wished we could have walked longer

I would recommend taking a guide and go hiking for a few hours, when doing so I seriously recommend taking Flavio with you..

An amazing chance to explore Ecuadorian high mountain environments. There is overnight camping available, and plenty of different hiking trails. The trails are pretty well marked, but it's still possible to get lost

Amazing place! Trails are marked and easy to follow. Just remember to bring a good jacket. It was 35 degrees Fahrenheit the day we went there.

I loved it. Free entry park, the guides show you the trails you can follow depending on how prepare to walk/climb you are. The trails are signposted properly. The landscape is incredible. Absolutely recommend it.

Great nature preserve. It is a fantastic area to explore. A fairly extensive set of trails. Varied fauna. A number of lakes. Peaceful and quiet.

The air smells like sweet incense. The altitude makes you breathe with intention. A shrine to the Virgin Mary dispenses blessed water. A nearby restaurant serves fresh mountain trout and if you like you can do some pole fishing and take home your own catch. If you lie still enough on the grass you can hear the volcanoes whispering to each other far below.
