We stayed three nights and four days, it is a quiet and peaceful place during the day. But as the locals told us there are wolfs in the mountains that come down to eat the chickens. So there are a lot of dogs, and they can get noisy at night if something does wander in. If you go for a walk don't be surprised if the German Shepherd named Max joins you. He is a great guard dog, needed since each family has dogs and not all are friendly. Max helped us a few times with random dogs. Only thing he ask for in return is a nice scratch behind the ear, and to play fetch with stones.

There is a kitchen for use, and a shared bathroom. Each room has a double bed and cost $10 per person. Each room has a different wall painting. And one of the rooms is a hut with a living roof, but no electricity. All of the rest of the room have electricity.

We enjoyed our stay so much it's back on the list to visit again.

Jose est un hôte super sympa. Son Hostal avec des chambres simples et super confortables est dans une ferme dans la communauté d'Iluman à 10 min de bus d'Otavalo.

I stayed here a few years ago and helped set up an online presence to attract tourists to his home.

He has spent years building a 'Campo' on some of his farmland, a bunkhouse for tourists to come and experience life with an indigenous family, in an indigenous community.

The Cajas family are the warmest and most genuine people I have ever met and would be the highlight of anyone's trip to Ecuador or even South America.

You won't just feel like a guest at a hostel, you'll be a part of the family and you'll make lifelong friends in the process.
