This hotel would be in the top of its class in any one of a dozen countries.Without a doubt, the best pool in Ecuador. Great food and friendly service. Rooms are ample, clean and have great views. Consistently one of the best options on the coast. Can't go wrong!

Close enough to town to walk to dinner, far enough that it feels secluded. Not that you have to go to town, great food is served on site. Great place to stay, can't wait to go back.

Funky medium size boutique hotel situated on Canoe beach. This hotel is owned by an American and I was told it had the best hamburgers in Ecuador! However my ceviche was not great and they only had large beers on offer. The rooms are very spacious but there are no safes, no screen for the door, minimal cupboard space and no hairdryer (my friends also had problems with the air-con). The towels also need to be refreshed. The pool, garden and beach are stunning. The hot-tub is very funky as it is made to look like a cannibal hotpot :)

After the April 16th/16 earthquake was one if the few places to stay in with my volunteers crew.

This is a very cozy hotel where you feel at home. The staff are friendly and helpful. There's virtually a private beach 50 metres away, just in front of the hotel. It's good deal especially cor families. Highly recommended!

This place is nice looking and their staff is also friendly and pretty good. The worst thing about this place is the owner. Avoid this place at all costs! Let's start with the good things at this place.
The hotel is the most expensive in the zone, where you get great rooms with a view and a nice almost private beach. There's also a nice looking swimming pool. Their food is not that good, and don't have a lot of options. It feels that the menu was designed by foreigners so there's not much of traditional Ecuadorian food.
Now, the owner of this place is the worst I've seen. He's not ecuatorian, he's from the US, so we thought service would be great. He's extremely rude and uses a lot of profanities. Many times, he looked intoxicated and was rude to his employees and visitors. He's the stereotype of a wealthy american living abroad and doing whatever he wants. He acts as he's doing you a favor for letting you stays at his hotel. You insulted a woman over the phone and even threaten to kill her! Right in front of all his guest! He then threaten us with a plastic sword, slamming it on the bar and screaming. We immediately packed our bags, pay what we owed and left running the place. The employees said that this is very common, and that he's very rude. There are quite a few reviews on TripAdvisor about the owner and his behavior, I just wish I would have paid more attention to them.
There's an equally as nice hotel right next to this one, for half the price, run by locals which and with much greater service. Go anywhere else beside here, do not support this american bully that treats everybody like they're lesser than him.response / report this review -

Greg, the owner, has been a good friend of mine since before he moved to Ecuador. I recently went to visit him at his new Canoa Beach Hotel, and was indeed impressed! What a place! Perfect pool, great suites, awesome bar, etcEverything is top notch. I highly recommend you stay at Canoa Beach Hotel if you find yourself in the area.

Tranquil, tropical, lush vegetation, felt like something in the south pacific. Facility and amenities were beautiful. Rooms were clean, comfortable, spacious, with fantastic views, and great attention to detail. 15 minute walk along the nearly deserted beach will take you into Canoa. Food and beverages in the bar were impeccable, delicious breakfast served daily included fresh sliced fruits, yogurts, granola, juices, coffee …Making me hungry just typing this review. And, of course, there’s Greg; the hotel’s designer/owner/host… Quite a character, Kentucky boy now riding a motorcycle in Ecuador, his stories are beyond entertaining, he seems to know almost everyone in Ecuador and is committed to keeping his guests happy. We spent 4 days at the Canoa Beach Hotel, wish we never had to leave…

When I arrived the first time it was late and I was tired. They had country music playing at the bar and the barkeep, Cesar put us in our room without delay. It couldn't have been better. I didn't even pay for a couple of days. After my second visit I truly consider the owner Greg a friend. Anyone headed that way please take him some Makers Mark and tell him that Randy. And Pam said hello. Also the place is beautiful
