Wake up to the rush of the river, birds and an occasional rooster or donkey! This place is so peaceful at the end of the road and up a short path making it private as well. The cabins are strategically placed over the hillside so each one has a great view of the valley. The hosts, Charlie and Sarah are very accommodating. This is a very good choice if you want to enjoy Vilcabamba then "come home" to the Ecuadorian country side at night.

I have spent a lot of time at the Cabanas Rio Yambala, a total of well over a year. I stayed in Cabin #1 which I now feel is like my second home. There is really no way to describe what it is like up there at Yamburara Alto, Vilcabamba. I can just say that if there is any possible way to get to the Cabanas Rio Yambala, you would be selling yourself short if you did not go. I guarantee it will be an experience you will cherish for a life time. As far as hosts go, Sarah and Charlie are top notch and they genuinely care about the people who stay at their incredible resort. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and will literally do whatever it takes to help their guests in any way they can. I love this place and I will be returning as many times as I can.

We had a great experience at Cabanas Rio Yambala (CRY), from start to finish. After not hearing back from one of the online reservation sites, I wrote to Sarah at CRY directly to see if I could still make a reservation. Sarah was very prompt and thorough, and she gave us good advice for how to get from the Loja airport to Vilcabamba and then up to the Cabanas. Charlie met us at the bridge and escorted us to our cabin. We LOVED the view, the privacy, the kitchenette, the sounds of the birds, and the distant rush of the river below. We hope to return next year!

An incredible place, run by very nice people. A 45 minute walk into town, or a 3 dollar taxi ride. The cabins are beautifully constructed, the property is nicely maintained, and it is just secluded enough to be perfect. I will certainly be coming back in the future.
