This church is absolutely breathtaking. I’m into the intricate designs of these types of churches and this one does not disappoint. The climb up is a bit steep and you do get traffic jams of people going up or down. We got caught in a huge thunder storm coming down, I would strongly suggest going early to avoid the rain. they have little shops inside the church as well.

Spectacular basilica where you can appreciate the whole splendor of the time when it was built. Unfortunately when we were there tower was closed for restoration and we couldn't admire the renowned views of quito from the top

Lombardy Gothic style and 19th century. Surprised by the age. Loved seeing the Masonic symbols inside the cathedral.

Reason that I rated one star wasn’t because of the beautiful church or its amazing architecture or anything related to this HOLY place
yet for the discussing people that “work” there. They see tourist and they think we are loaded always trying to get some money out, and on top of it they are rude as F
I hope it was a one off other wise the sacristy has to know what type of “employees” they have.

A must see $2 to enter into the galleries and climb to the towers of the church. A further $2 for entrance into the main part of the church, we decided not to do this due to time.

The stairs at the top are very steep and not for the faint hearted or those who are very fearful of heights! Beautiful views of the entire city can be had if you are willing to brave it.

My boyfriend and another couple and I visited one morning. We paid the couple of dollars to walk around. No one was there because it had just opened. It was just very quiet and beautiful. Unfortunately we did not get to climb to the top.

A must go to place on your stay in Quito. Prices may vary, but from the time I went there, to go inside the church was $2 and to climb to the top and you can see an amazing of your view of the city is another $2 it is definitely worth the visit. There's a lot of history and it has a gorgeous view. I recommend you see this first.

Hermosa Basilica estilo neo gótico, las puertas laterales son accesos a la iglesia (parte baja) con un costo de 2$, y la puerta frontal es para acceder a las torres (costo $1). Se pasa por un puente de madera angosto y luego se suben muchas escaleras (las ultimas hasta las torres son muy empinadas). No se puede parquear en la calle pero existen parqueaderos diagonal y a 1 cuadra de este lugar (0.75 centavos la hora en la mañana/tarde, 0.90 centavos noche)

what a spectacular history to this place and really just a WOW as you look around, the detail of the art and architecture alone makes it a must as part of your tour of the old city. not like you can miss it, it's HUGE on the city scape.

One of the most amazing and beautiful churches in Quito, definitely a must see. You can go and see the church inside and even go to the rooftop in a 5 dollar tour.

To me it was all about the experience of the climb. The Clock tower has a small spiral staircase. The other one has 2 set of stairs. the first one pretty inclined and small and the second one also inclined but with an added intensity because you are outside of the tower with a small rest in the middle. Definitely not for people afraid of heights or people unsure of their leg strength. Specially for the climb down

Beautiful despite not being as ornate as some of the older churches. It felt like a mix of austere and ornate depending on what detail you were focusing on. The chapel in the back, where you can't take photos, is probably my favorite part. Honestly, if you won't be in Paris or Rome any time soon, this is a must see in Quito.
For a truly extraordinary experience, find a beautiful day and climb the stairs and catwalks to the numerous towers that overlook the city. You'll be rewarded with the proverbial 'million-dollar view' (in this case probably much, much more) and some moments of quivering climbing the precipitous stairs. While it's hard to capture unique angles in a church as photographed as this one, I've definitely tried and you can see attempts with my attached photos.

I'm split between five stars for entertainment value and one star for quality of the building.

The basilica was started in the late 1800s and finished in 1934 (if I remember correctly). This makes it fairly different from the older churches for a few reasons, namely that the quality of construction is absolutely laughable (hence entertainment value).

The entire church is built from large molded pieces of concrete, as opposed to the stone construction of older works. Rain damage is apparent, and in some places you wonder how long the building can last. In other places, such as the tower, you can see where stones were literally drawn onto to concrete, which more makes the whole building feel cheap rather than adding to the ambiance.

Nothing inside the building is particularly ornate, and the stained glass windows are of lesser quality than those in the other churches. Graffiti is everywhere.

One of the advantages to this cheap, modern building, however, is that most of it is open to the public. You can go upstairs, climb towers, and generally run amok taking photos, so it feels more casual than the competition. It's also less expensive to get in.

It may be worth a visit. I'm glad I went.

The oldest neo-gothic church in the Americas! A must see in Quito! Very I treating architecture, and very different from the other architecture in the city. The typical gargoyles have been replaced with animals of Ecuador (turtles, iguanas, condors, armadillos). It's not yet finished, and locals say that if it ever is, that will be a signal of the end of the world. For $2 you can go in and climb the steps to the too for a great view of Quito.
