You need to try the 'canard' at the Chinese restaurant in this hotel. it iiiisss sooo delicious. It not just about the food, take time to feel the Chinese culture as presented through the deco. The gentle man the attended to us was just so nice. Bravo

Historical hotel Unfortunatelly poor service.. Almost all service in poor or very limited. Staffs are nice and try to do at their best. Price also expensive.

Nice architecture, beautiful landscape and surrounding nature. Inside is not so good for a 5-star, rooms are a bit smelly with older furniture. Very interesting lobby (historic).

This is a historic hotel complex in which one can find all the services provided by 5 star Hotels with 5 star service. I enjoyed the Chinese Restaurant and its top quality delicious food.

Pretty shabby. Toilets don't flush, WiFi is intermittent, staff is surly and rude, room service pretty grim, "garden is ok" but the hotel is overpriced. Tried to bring some bread in and they said it was against the rules- a joke.

This is the worst hotel and services I have ever seen in my life, the staff are so rude specially in the restaurant.
The rooms are all dirty and equipped with a very old smelly furniture, with a very noisy air conditioning A/C.
The swimming pool is always full of people who are hotel's guests.
The last thing they care about in the fitness center is hygiene, don't use the towels there cuz it smells awful.
I really feel sorry about that wonderful palace how it becomes just because it's between irresponsible hands.response / report this review -

I didn't spend the night but was visiting a friend in her room while se was staying in the hotel for few days, in walked up to her room and she was just checking in, we stayed in the beautiful very well lighted, clean, chic room for awhile but the WiFi single wasn't strong enough, she asked for her room to be changed which was handled very politely and professionally but the hotel staff, we moved to the new room which was bigger and the furniture was even more stunning (I've found!) The WiFi single was much better.
We later on that evening had dinner in their Chinese restaurant, the food was very yummy (ask for more chips!) Ans the atmosphere was very relaxing.response / report this review -

I have been staying for more than 2 weeks, place is really good, breakfast is just fruits and 🍞, food is expensive, hardly anybody knows English, housekeeping does the job somewhat Ok, AC doesn't work, and mainly u can't go to restaurant with ur shorts and floaters, its not allowed.

I had the pleasure of spending four nights, in two different rooms at the El Djezair (ex St. George) Hotel. At the current price point of $200USD+ per night, the quality of the rooms is abhorrent. The mattress is so soft that when I mistakenly sat on the side it gave way and I almost fell on the floor. Not the most comfortable bed to say the least. I also had the pleasure of getting a non-smoking room above "Club Pacha". Great club if you're at the party, not so much if you've got an early meeting or flight to catch. Despite being on the third floor it sounded as if the rave party in Club Pacha was taking place in the room next door. Because the A/C didn't work I had to open a window, and the pollution from the smokers on the patio below quickly made its way in. I agree with many of the other posts that the rooms are poorly maintained and dated. The location is not great if you're interested in walking to tourist sites, shops, or restaurants. There's nothing nearby. Other than that, I think that the building and grounds are beautiful, although the building's tarnished charm could use some polishing. There are some better options in Algiers, but not many, as the tourism culture in Algeria hasn't quite set in yet. The rooms here are worth $100/night at best.

In one phrase the beauty of this place is on its past. The present offers a terrible, state-type of lethargic experience.
Rooms are very old. Even the old wooden door does not close.
Bathroom is a mess without style. It gets all flooded after shower.
Breakfast. You can't call that a breakfast. The only fruit I saw were apples and not fresh at all. The rest is bread and bread. Sometimes they put boiled eggs but limited quantity so by 7.30 am they have all been taken. When asking get for more, none of the waiters listen to you and ignore you.
Service is terrible terrible. I cannot emphasise how bad it is.
Oh I even asked for an ironing board and they didn't bring anything. I had to iron on the floor.
I don't think I will ever stay here again. And I don't recommend you to stay hereresponse / report this review
