Waited at their kiosk desk for over an hour in the terminal, tried calling number listed on Google but no answer. Eventually gave up an walked towards other rental car companies, ended up at a rental cars office across the road from the other terminal only to find another SIXT desk with two staff just “chilling”. When I gave them my booking number they causally told me we don’t have any cars. When I said but I have a booking they said you were late so we couldn’t hold the car for you. Didn’t care that I was waiting at their other desk. I was blown away by how little they cared. Worst customer service ever.
Knowing all of this wouldn't have been possible just 20 years ago without Google Maps reviews. Thanks to all past reviewers for the warnings and sorry for the experiences you went through about how you got ripped off and faced terrible customer service!
I haven't even arrived in Punta Cana yet but I just closed the Sixt website after reading 30 of your similar 1 star reviews.
We'll be renting a car somewhere else for this trip.
Process could have been more accommodating for travelers. Cost was comparable to others. Van was a little beat up with broken windshield. A/C worked great. Overall good experience in Punta Cana.
I had a great experience. They upgraded me without charge. I booked 3 months ahead. For $260 I get eclipse suv for 8 day. Always satisfied with Sixt from my previous experience. Friendly counter lady.
DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. I rented 2 cars from this place, I'm basically being double charged for a rental with a $400 usa each car. Mind you I payed upfront for both my rental $350, they are charging me twice for insurance total of $218, and we have to pay $318 for the usage of the days used?if this isn't fraud, I dont know what is.
Worst car rental experience of my life:
1) No attendant present at 2 out of the 3 desks at the airport. The one that was present at the third was not willing to help with anything.
2) Was charged a $17/day "mandatory" insurance fee, despite the fact that I had an E-Mail from Sixt stating that insurance was "recommended". Could not provide anything in writing stating that the insurance was mandatory
3) The actual car was a complete piece of junk. In addition to dozens of dents and scratches, two fender pieces were literally "hanging" off the car. They still had the nerve to not only do a car check ahead of time, but were very thorough to check the car after it was returned. Short of total damage, it would have been impossible to notice any kind of new damage, given the car's condition at pick up.
4) After returning the car, I received no paper work and was instead offered a ride back to the other terminal without ever having been returned any paper work allowing me to make sure that I would get my $2,500 deposit back. After going back for it, the attendant once again didn't care about anything. The only time he was ever personable was at the time of the original return when some lady was in the booth with him.
I would not rent from them again at this location even if the car was free.
Terrible service. Unbelievably terrible if you compare with Sixt in Los Angeles!
In particular i was frustrated by following:
- for hours nobody could be present at reception desk, no answer the phone calls,
- they pushed customers to get all-inclusive damage insurance instead of basic, and if you refuse it they raise preliminary charging amount by amount of potential waiver (+$1100).
- small number of cars, generally you could not receive here a car that you booked but what is available at this moment.
Terrible custom service: it took us an hour and half to get the car, which we pre-booked online weeks in advance. We were with a 15 month old baby.
