This is a beautiful basilica with a swooping post-modern design. It was well worth it to hire one of the church's tour guides, who was full of knowledge about the building and its importance to the country and even wanted to assist with the perfect photos. The palm groves on the site are really nice as well. Worth a trip into Higüey to see!

Anyone interested in architecture should visit this church. It's even more interesting inside. Catenary arches supported by concrete airplane wings?

First, this is in the real Dominican. Meaning this is a working persons town. So if you want to see a crazy open market, this is the town. Ask your guide.

The Basilica is very beautiful on the inside. It is free of charge to enter. Let me repeat, it is free to enter. There will be people there telling you that you need to pay, or rent a skirt or need a guide. Sad that they are basically stealing from the innocent in front of this church, but they are there. The painting is just behind the alter and you are free to visit and say your prayers. There is a shop off to the side for rosaries and other items.
