Worst place ever, husband fell super I'll to a virus and food poisoning on our honeymoon and had came on with 103 fever and was left for an hour and half without a fever medication ..no one knows what your saying and won't accept you to use a translater over the phone! They We're all doing shots and drinking in the nurses office, and when we asked if we can get a medication and leave l, they ripped his IV out and hurt himextremly rude and the slowest place I have ever been to while the dr and nurses sit in the nurses room talking and drinking (i have pic to prove) they also charge you for things you didn't fully use, they did not let him finish the whole iv bag before leaving but yet still charged us for the whole thing

Total ripoff of a clinic, they're only interested in the over charging and ripping off of tourist. $235 for the ambulance and when told you have to stop in they want a deposit of $2,000, told them we'd be leaving and to sort out the invoice.
Got sent there by the in hotel doctor at the RIU Palace Macao, She could of given my wife the treatment the clinic did and saved us a over $600. Feel that the hotel and doctors are getting payments from the clinic to send people there without doing what they're trained to do..

I stayed here for a week when after falling ill with meningitis. The staff are great, waiting times aren't bad. Would definitely recommend.

Do not go this hospital. You will become more sick while there. It's old, outdated, dirty, with gekkos and rude staff. You will not get straight answers, and the staff really don't know what they're doing. You'll be sent to what they call intensive care when really what you need is peace and quiet, and if possible, they will deny you from having your cell phone or a laptop or tablet It's more like jail. There's no privacy and every enters talking loudly, in intensive care you could die just from the stress. I was there for hypertension and guess what they fed me??? Beef! Salty, greasy beef and some veggies. Guess what was for a snack, processed orange juice w lots of sugar, soda crackers (hello sodium) and cheese!!!! (I guess it's the special kind that doesn't raise blood pressure more???) And breakfast- ham (no sodium there either) and cheese with more crackers :-) If you get sick here taking the first flight home or find you a campo (countryside) and get the oldest person there to make a concotion from nature. Your chances are better there . I'm only alive to tell my story because I DEMANDED to be released. And amazing, as soon as I was off an IV, my three day headache disappeared. I wonder what they were putting in it to keep me feeling sick? I got out on June 29, 2017.

SERIOUS WARNING - DO NOT GO HERE. I am currently on holiday in punta cana and have been suffering food poisoning for 3 days now. I was taken by ambulance to Bavaro Hospiten as in my opinion, the onsite hotel doctor was being overly cautious and working on an agreement with the hospital to make money! after a 6 hour intravenous drip and only once did the doctor do an unsatisfactory examination at the hospital I was pressured to stay overnight. When I hesitated the guy on reception ignored my request to leave (after I chased and confirmed to the doctor twice that I have chosen to leave and recover at the hotel) and he later brought over papers for me to sign without allowing me to read. Upon escalating in my dizzy state, my husband and I realised they were asking us to sign our admission into the hospital overnight so that they can add that to the bill for our insurance. They also told our insurance company that I was 'sicker' than I actually was and it was very clear from the onsite hotel doctor to all the staff operating my case at the hospital that their priority was to make money from us as an insurances foreigner.

My husband, who wasn't a patient, was forced to remain at the hospital by the security/police onsite and was actually pushed back into the building. Not only was there no right for him to be held against his will, he was only trying to get a signal to call the insurance company as they were refusing to at the hospital. We were also outright asked for money as a bribe to let us leave the hospital.suffice it to say that besides all that factually happened during the day at the hospital, it has been a very distressing experience and I would like to see something done about it, if only to help anyone else avoid this type of treatment in the future.

Upon reading other reviews of the hospitals in punta cana and specifically Bavaro hospiten, I would recommend avoiding like the plague. I have travelled to many Caribbean destinations (Mexico, Jamaica etc) and usually need to see a doctor once because of tummy bugs and climate change etc but this has got to be the most horrendous experience I have ever encountered leaves a sour taste in your mouth for Dominican Republic especially when you pay thousands and still have a week left of your vacation!

Note that if you go to this hospital, be prepared to be pressured if not forced, to stay for days and sign lots of paperwork with extortionate charges (270 usd for a 20 minute ambulance journey for instance) aggression if you attempt to leave the hospital, make a call or complain in anyway and be overloaded with the wrong meds, a dirty hospital with little sanitary practises (my iv put in and taken out without gloves) Mosquitos everywhere and the most unhelpful staff you will ever come across all trying to make money from the 'gringos'

I am very surprised about the low ratings for this hospital.
We where there las week. The staff was very helpful. The doctors were very knowledgeable. They clearly explained everything to us, they answered to all our questions. Their equipment was new and sophisticated. They all started addressing to us in English and switched into Spanish when we asked them to. Our wonderful doctors were: Dra. Mariely Valdez, Dr. Oswaldo Payan, Dra. Idalia Zapata. Thank you to all of them.

My husband was sent there from Hard Rock Resort. We knew it was food poisoning and had the rx on hand to cover the symptoms but the hotel insists we go. Once there they refused to let me back with him until we paid 3k. I had to use a credit card. Once they found out we had insurance that would pay after a 48 hr stay they made sure we would be stuck there. They tried to give my husband the wrong meds, rusty scalpel in the emergency room and the nurse took my husbands bloody IV out with no gloves. They refused to let him see his labs or even release him for 3 days. We finally had to call the US embassy to get him released. Had he stayed hooked up to IVs much longer he could've died. He didn't even need the IV. Once he was released they charged him 2k!! Total scam and I believe the hotel has a referral kickback to the hospital. This was 3 yrs ago.. based on the reviews looks like it hasn't improved.

I took my daughter to get her ears checked at the Hospiten clinic at Memories Splash hotel. The first thing that was asked of me was when I was checking out of the hotel even though they are not associated with the hotel. Weird!
The woman took her temperature and then checked her ears in about 2 minutes. I was told that her infection in her left ear is so bad that she will not be able to fly and the swelling is awful. I am obviously not a doctor so I trusted what she said. Then she told me I need to take her to the Hospiten clinic nearby which has a pediatrician because she is not allowed to treat children. Really??? Why would she waste my time. I also had to pay $150 just for two minutes of her service and no treatment at all because she's not allowed to treat children. So I said will I have to pay again since you can't treat her and this clinic is associated with you like you said. All of sudden they are no longer associated and everyone charges separate fees. I told the woman that I would find a local clinic that I can trust because they really don't know what they are doing. She wasn't having it and insisted I only use their clinic. Super fishy. I decided to read reviews on this place and pretty much everyone said the reason why they ask you when you are leaving is because they want to keep you in the hospital until that date and will not let you leave until you pay up! Bills are typically in the thousands. I confirmed this with a friend of mine who is from DR and she said that company is a racket. The note the woman wrote was one page long. None of which is true and exaggerated. The only part that's true is that I denied service at their hospital. Unfortunately I am unable to attach the image but will put the direct translation below.

    It says
"Patient of 21 month old was brought to us with intense ear pain. Mother was advise to give her Advil. Temperature of 37 C

    Physical exam:
    Head: normal.
Ear: left side has an inflammation. Right side normal. Right side normal.
    Neck: normal movement.
Rest of the body is good.

At the bottom it says it is recommended to take her to the clinic for treatment for the ear infection.

But it says that you are refusing to take her to the clinic."

After this my husband and I went to the hotel reception and asked for a reliable doctor that they would go to. Thank god for the man that helped us. The doctor was amazing. Checked her throat, her ears, heart, temperature and more. He to me there is barely an infection in her ear. Pretty much non existent which is why she hasn't cried at all and the infection is in her throat which is why it hurts to swallow when she does. He gave her a penicillin shot and ibuprofen for pain, and some amoxicillin for the rest of the trip. She is good as new and it's only been 3 hours. The doctor told me that everything on this note is garbage. Cannot believe that I almost might have ended up at a racket of a hospital where god knows what they would have done two my two year old. I'm also calling AMEX to deny the payment.

If anyone would like to see a copy of the note in Spanish, let me know and I would be happy to forward to an email.

Save yourself and your loved ones!
