  Our trip to Dominica was peaceful, refreshing, and the exact holiday we needed except for our experience with the house itself.
  Upon arriving, despite it being somewhat late (roughly 9 pm) we were shown around by the very gracious and kind on-premises care takers for the house, Son and his son, Caso. Their entire family really made the trip for us, providing the majority of our tour guide services around the island. Caso would lead our trips while his young girls accompanied us on nearly every excursion (by request of course), as they were on a school break too.
  After three separate flights into country, we were happy to check in the first evening, have a warm shower, and get to bed so that we could get up early the next day and start our vacation. The next morning, we awoke to only sounds of gurgling and hissing from the faucets, with no water to be seen. We emailed the owners and expressed our concern to house's care takers, and each day we would receive a shrug accompanied by a quizzical look of disbelief, reassurance that the water sometimes does that an would be back on soon, and a half-hearted email response from the distant owners referring to having contacted the water company and expressing a minimal amount of concern and apology for the situation.
  It was difficult to have to continually complain about not having water to the caretakers who did not appear to have any amenities whatsoever, but without running water, it is very difficult to bathe post-snorkeling trip, let alone make use of the other promised amenities that were included with the property (dish washer, clothes washer, toilets, showers, drinking water, cooking etc.) We were offered to relocate into another cottage half way through our trip, but we would have lost the view, the dishwasher, and the laundry anyways. And thank goodness we didn't move, because we later found out the other cottage didn't have water either!
  We ended up spending an inordinate amount of time lugging water back and forth up the hill just to be able to flush the toilet, and it was a significant interruption to the holiday that we had worked so hard to plan, not to mention afford. Despite every other aspect of the trip being flawless, the water was still a significant interruption and hassle. The most disturbing part of the entire scenario was that there was a water storage tank being installed on the property, which leads me to believe the issue was not a new one.

  Toucari Cottages are a beautiful place to stay while in the Northwest of Dominica. Katy and Andrew are wonderful hosts, and their accommodations are impeccable. They have 3 cottages; Coconut, Mango, and Tree Top, all of which have fantastic views and lovely gardens surrounding them. Plus Toucari is one of the most amazing spots on the island. I highly recommend staying with them.

  Born and raised in toucarie and the bay is beautiful blue and calm beach water and much much more !!!
