Local historian, Dr. Lennox Honychurch, shares that each time Dominica has been devastated by a natural disaster, the country has bounced back better than before. After Hurricane Maria, the people are rebuilding their land, waterfalls are still flowing, and we're once again creating that vibrant society we've known and loved for generations.

Sharnica, a Dominica native, moved to the nearby island of Nevis Naturally in 2015. As the eye-wall of Hurricane Maria was rapidly approaching Dominica, she spoke with her mother on the phone. Just five minutes after they hung up, she called back and couldn't get through... It was weeks before she heard from anyone in her family.

Follow the link below to read her full experience during this tragedy.

Our activities coordinator, Judy, was returning to Dominica the day it was hit by Hurricane Maria. Her flight was then cancelled, stranding her in Puerto Rico – another island in Maria’s path. Follow the link below to learn more about her perspective and what she experienced when she finally returned to the island.

It's been more than two months since Dominica was devastated by Hurricane Maria, but our island continues to suffer from the tremendous impact. For #GivingTuesday, please consider supporting IsraAID's efforts to provide hurricane relief throughout Dominica. Thank you for your generosity!

Following Hurricane Maria, the Rosalie Bay Resort staff is safe, however, all have endured serious losses of their homes and many need to completely rebuild their lives. They have received only minimal amounts of relief and are still in need of food, water and basic necessities. Due to the tremendous impact of the Category 5 hurricane, Beverly and Oscar are coordinating relief efforts from St. Lucia with IsraAID, a rapid response team on the ground in Dominica. We are working on reaching remote villages surrounding Rosalie Bay to deliver supplies and first aid. Please consider supporting our ongoing relief efforts, and follow the link below to donate!

We appreciate everyone who has expressed concern, well wishes and prayers for Dominica. Unfortunately, power, landlines and cell service remain down throughout the island. Once communication is restored, we will provide updates on the staff and Rosalie Bay Resort as they become available.

In the ABS Television/Radio interview below, Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit shares the status of Discover Dominica and its unfortunate devastation. Thank you again for your support and patience during this difficult time.

Thanks to everyone who reached out with well wishes throughout the past few days. Although we received heavy rains, everyone at Rosalie Bay is safe and the resort is undamaged. We continue to monitor Jose and make necessary preparations.

We're sending our thoughts, prayers and warm wishes to nearby islands who received major damage and devastation.
