I would give zero stars if possible. I have a business in the U.S. and came back Copenhagen to get my Visa renewed. I have been waiting for more than 4 weeks now and have not heard ANYTHING from them. Impossible to talk to an actual human on the phone and everytime I send an email I get an automated answer. Unbelieveable.

    Always swift and efficient service.

I’vi visited a lot of countries’ embassies around the world. China embassy in Tokyo (2 hrs wait), Indian embassy in Sri Lanka (5 hrs wait) and many others. The US Embassy in CPH is amongst the fastest.

Awful phone service, takes minimum 1 month to make an appointment for simple things like passport renewal for citizens with standard adult passports, details on their website are vague, and if you ask for further info, they act irritated and say they don't know. The guards (usually at least 4 standing outside the doors in front of the building) are blatantly rude and treat you like a convicted criminal from the time you say hello to the time you exit the prison like building. Avoid this place if at all possible. If you have to go, consider taking a sedative because the experience is generally rage inducing.

I think your attitude has a lot to do with a day going to the US embassy.
I would have renewed my passport via post but it was too far outdated and required a personal visit. I thought the service and the making of the appointment was easy and smooth. I did fill out the appointment form online and got back a quick reply. I waited two weeks before travelling by train to Copenhagen, walked to the embassy a little earlier than my appointment time. After waiting awhile they let me go in and the process of the interview took less than 5 minutes. Then after waiting another ten minutes they told me to expect my new and old passports in the post.
It reminded me of going to the Costa Mesa DMV accept with the added guards . All and all it was a good experience.

We needed US Citizen Services when we were in Copenhagen in July 2017. The US Embassy never answered their phone and never replied to my email request. We have been disappointed and embarrassed by our US Embassy in two other countries. This post in Denmark provides zero support for US Citizens. Why are they there? They have no service accountability.

As an American citizen living in Denmark, I appreciate that the Embassy puts the needs of its own citizens first. The staff is friendly and helpful, however the building feels suffocating like a prison. Also, the body cavity searches upon entering do not feel very welcoming either, but that's no different than when one travels through an airport these days. But, if you can disregard having to undress before strangers, as you will surely be required to do at the airport when you fly to America, everything else is rosey. Remember to pee in the bushes before you enter! Toilets are off-limits!

Extremely friendly staff and FSOs! Minimal wait for US citizen services. The visa section had a long queue

I am a US citizen needed children passport renewals. Had to show up in person instead of renewing through the mail since we had children involved. Made online appointment there even though we are Swedish residents and live closer to there then Stockholm. Had no issues going to Copenhagen's US Embassy. Was in very quick. Security was effortless and secure. Total time was roughly 45 mins total. Personnel were kind and helpful. Keep up the great work.

There must be an option to give zero stars in yelp, especially on this case, but since I'm needing the American Embassy more than they're needing me, I guess one star is probably appropriate.

As a holder of Indonesian passport, I had to come here to make American tourist visa when I wanted to visit my friend for thanksgiving.

Good thing that most of the process could be done online, so not to waste your time, but you still need to make an appointment for "interview" at the embassy and please do not think that the time slot you select your interview will be the time you will actually be doing your interview. You're wrong!

When I arrived at the embassy, there was already a queue long right outside the building where it was guarded by two security guys. It was almost comical the queue line outside the American embassy is similar to those long queues in front of bread/food shops you've seen in the documentary film about good old Soviet. Irony much?

We weren't even allowed to step on the steps leading to the building! Oh no, because then you'd be too close to the building. God knows if you had something strapped on your body - like the visa application forms, for once!

As Mina K pointed out - don't bring any electronic devices. You have to put your mobile phone by the security post that you would get later. I even had to drink from my water bottle to show them that it was actual water, not some dangerous clear liquid that resembles water *ooooh*

But once you got in, the process was pretty quick. There was still delay because of the whole security system and I got interviewed half an hour later than my actual time slot, which was OK in government offices, I suppose. I must admit that they're doing the administrative work quite fast, because the next day I got my passport back by mail with 5-year visa attached. Good thing that they're giving out five year visa at once, otherwise I couldn't bear going back there every time I need to visit the US of A.

Lost my passport, staff was very considerate and worked quickly so I could catch a flight the same day

Whenever you call you have to listen to a series of "if you need this, press this"; no matter what you press, however, you are forwarded to voicemail, told that you haven't provided a "proper code" (even though it doesn't ask for one), and it hangs up on you.

In short: you cannot get in touch with any living person through their phone system.

Their website does not offer assistance on many different things and, if you make an appointment for the wrong department (because you can't find one that suits your needs), you will be turned away if you needed a department that was not listed. So, even showing up in person gets you absolutely nowhere. Also, you cannot make appointments with the correct department through the phone, which complicates things un-necessarily.

Overall, I'm going to give my experiences a 1 star, if I could give it 0, I absolutely would. This system seems designed to make you give up.
