Excellent Japanese decorative arts section showing fascinating effect on Danish design opens a very nice museum. Danish chair section stood out even more than expected, and liked the Nouveau displays, but the jump right to mid-century was puzzling: I'm only so familiar and would have liked to have seen the Deco aspect, but maybe it isn't very large. Worth the trip and price if in town or a trip out of the way if you have a thing for Danish chair history and inspiration.

Fascinating Museum displaying Danish design from the past to the present. Lots of information posted in English. The museum itself is (not surprisingly) very well designed with some very clever displays. My particular favourite was the section showing various chair designs. Finally there is a section showing Japanese art, and it's influence on Danish design.
Highly recommended. If you have a Copenhagen Card, admission is free.response / report this review -

"Danish design" has a big name in the world. This museum is providing a great overview through the times and different kind of objects.
From haute couture to wooden chairs, the presentation with additional posters or videos is helping, to get into it. You will see and recognize the most famous brands, you connect with Danish design :)
A break at the cafe with cakes and cookies helps to recover and get through all the exhibition in around 3h(?).

Given how famous Danish design is, we headed here on a rainy day and enjoyed it. We saw the general permanent exhibition, the chairs exhibition, and a bit of the historical stuff by the chairs. Could have done with a bit more explanation throughout (or an audio guide?) - the items that had descriptions of why they had been included were much more interesting. Cafe was nice but the food options were a bit limited (a couple of open sandwiches and soup was pretty much it for lunch).

If you like fashion and design, you must go here! The Danish are a leading force in product design, and there are so many exhibits of their historical influences as well as modern designs. The museum is free on Wednesdays after 6pm, so if you're a travelling on a budget, it is perfect.

Really fun place! My wife is crazier about design than me and she got lost in here. Really enjoyed the Danish chair exhibit. The learning from Japan part and the current design section were also very cool. The library is worth exploring on its own, free of charge and plenty of English language books.

Compact museum with a changing display. Open and friendly with a very reasonable entry price. Shaped like a square donut around a central garden (for the cafe and also our outdoor theatre/auditorium) it's a pleasant building. Good contextual info in danish and English. We were there during a Japanese exhibition and one dedicated to the danish chair. Permanent expo of danish design and technology is also interesting. Shop and cafe both good.

Brilliant exhibits - they had one on the connection between Japanese arts/culture and the development of Danish design. An exhibit that isn't just "oh that's cool" but really opens your eyes to seeing how incredibly interconnected cultures have been in the genesis of the modern era (of design).
The famous chair room is also really neat if you take the time to read how the descriptions refer back to other chairs - again the museum promotes understanding the *why* more than just the what (it also helps to sit in a couple they have for resting - you truly get a different emotion to each)response / report this review -

If Danish design was about a chair, that museum is well focused. However we have not seen there much more. Beside temporary "learning from Japan" exhibition.

Very well designed museum and exhibitions. Spent almost three hours there and it definitely worths the time. The cube design arts and the "learning from Japan" zone are my favourites. By far the best museum here in Copenhagen.

Very nice museum with great exhibition. Sometimes the exhibition is missing signage so it's not always clear where to go next. In some places the exhibition was too dense and crowded. Overall still very nice.

Really inspiring place for budding designers. I'm so impressed with the number of designers and iconic designs from Denmark!! I saw quite a few budding designers scribbling and drawing sketches. Very very nice exhibition. The Japan exhibition is very cute as well. I spent just over an hour there, but it was only because it was closing. I can easily spend more time here, as they have a nice cafe and outdoor seating as well, which would be beautiful if the weather was nicer. The price tags in the gift shop as expected was on the higher end, but they are all interesting stuff to see. Definitely a must go in Copenhagen. Iconic museum.
