Not very happy with the quality of food. The service was very good but I felt the kitchen was overwhelmed and extremely expensive for me.

Ancient German cuisine, in the best of ways! This place is the oldest restaurant in Berlin, and they know what they're doing. I had the roasted pork knuckle with red cabbage which is prepared almost like a jam. This dish was incredible, and also the puree side. For firsts you should try the chicken liver croquet, which is simply amazing. The duck stock is also quite unique but too salty for my palate. I was rewarded with a free Apple tort for dessert which was nice, and the waiter was very friendly and helpful.

Maybe next time just told people the restaurant is fully booked instead of making fun of them. What do u think I want when I walk into a restaurant around dinner time? U Just said Hello and nothing else, but after I found a table to sit, then u told me I can’t eat here. Real funny way to waste my time.

Lovely historic pub restaurant serving great beer and good quality traditional German food.
It can get busy, so booking in advance is highly recommended.

The steamed pork knuckle was very good. Huge portion — big enough for 2 Asian women! Leave room for the apple tart. DELICIOUS. Though the place smells a little greasy, it goes away soon enough and the authentic unpretentious rustic ambience more than makes up for it. Hey, if it's good enough for Napoleon, it's good enough for me.

It's a nice restaurant serves German food which is suitable for a family. Although not the best restaurant I know in Berlin.

Medieval architecture and traditional food (I thoroughly recommend the Grillhaxel) with good prices and massive servings.
If you want German food, this cannot be bettered.
On a side note, the bathrooms are modern and very clean, not medieval, so no worries there.response / report this review -

Napoleon ate here. They barely have vegetarian options, but they do. You going here? Good, get your meat on because they look at you crazy when you go vegetarian.
The potato's are good, so don't worry. The stuffed cabbage is good if you like it stuffed with pork sausage or who knows whatever dead animal it was I ate, it was good.
Germans like to drink beer, eat dead things and do perverted things to each other after dark. This is a classic spot, but not perverted. Go to Berghaim or Kit Kat Club to get your perv on.response / report this review -

Traditional and delicious food from a beautiful quaint pub-esque atmosphere. Greeted warmly by the staff even though I was worried about previous reviews but it seems they were just people who didn't seem to think reservations would be nessesary. Clearly with level of food this high of course they'd be busy most days.
But honestly if you're looking for a real German meal with delicious beers and a warm and homely environment then this is one of the best in the city.
Pork knuckle is highly recommended along with the meatballs.response / report this review
