I visited Spreegold on a Sunday morning at 10am and it was pretty crowded. I'm guessing that should not be a surprise on weekends, so you would think they account for that and have enough staff except they were quite obviously drowning.
The wait was no big deal and ordering was easy. We had two requests to get a sauce and another topping of our food on the side. The girl who took our order was all smiles and assured us that she is happy to get it for us on the side. When we finally got the food none of the things we specifically asked to get on the side were served accordingly.
The coffee took forever (20 minutes). The barista yells through the restaurant as loud as she can each time a new hot drink is ready. Unfortunately it was so extremely loud in the place, that it was almost impossible to hear her.
The tables were all dirty, the place where guests are supposed to bring their dirty dishes to was overflowing and the cleanliness in general doesn't seem to be a priority at Spreegold. The dust behind where we were sitting was half an inch high.
The coffee (vanilla latte) was pretty good, but the food not so much. We had eggs benedict where the bread was completely soggy, because it was served on some salad with dressing. It tasted fine apart from that, but I have had better eggs benedict about three hundred times before.
The so called "pancakes" (why use the English word if it has NOTHING to do with an American pancake?) were awful. They tasted like corn biscuits with way too much baking soda in it. Kind of crispy and just not what a pancake should be at all. The fruit they used to decorate the plate with looked like it was a week old.
All in all, it was a disappointing breakfast experience. Way too many real good places in Berlin to easily skip a place like Spreegold.
Also, your clothes will smell like bacon and eggs for two days.
Trendy big space where you share your table with other people, you put your order at the counter, you have to stand up to pick up your drinks and (about 35 minutes later, if you are lucky enough) you'll stand up again to pick up your food.
Unfortunately, they don't let you cook your meal (it will be the only thing you don't do here). I'd rather prefer to do it by myself after seeing the results (see pic of benedictine eggs once you open them). It is not that the quality is not good enough. It is the lack of love when preparing the food.
As a summary, it can be a good place if you are a skinny instagramer that orders and then does not eat. If you are hungry, save your money (and your waiting time).
Spacious, large window fronts with good views of two streets. Chic, similar to New York Cafe. Actually just the right thing to relax alone or as a couple. If not the music always so loud that you have to scream at each other. Fun for the staff, for the relaxation seeking customers however stress. If it were quieter one could enjoy the many delicious breakfast variants better (although the last time a moldy strawberry lay on the pancakes, probably only one exception). Conclusion: Please make the guests more comfortable and keep your music quieter!!!
First of, I wanna say that the food was very good, but after we got the food the staff didn't even consider us anymore. We initially also wanted to order dessert, but even after 35 minutes none of the waitresses came to us or even looked at us. We finally got up to pay and it took them another 10 minutes until we were able to pay. I was really excited about this place and the food was great - but organization wise it was a dissapointment.
Nice looking restaurant and good staff, but the food needs some work.
We had pancakes that tasted like the instant ones. Unfortunately, they were buried under fruity decorations that just make one ask "why is this on the plate"? I like fruit but I ordered pancakes because that's what I wanted.
After watching the staff it seemed like all the plate decorations were slowing the service down and not really improving the quality to bring it in line with the relatively high prices.
It seems like the manager should take a hard look at the menu and ask him or herself "is this really the best we can do with the resources available"?
I went there for lunch (busy time) with my colleague. My colleague has received his order before me although he has ordered after me and we ordered the same food. I went to find out why I didn't get my food, the answer was simple, they have lost my order! It was very nice for the chef to say sorry, but as soon as my order was finally ready they run out of forks! The worst restaurant service I've ever seen in my life! The Eggs Benedict was good though, but by some stupid reason they were served on paper on top of the dish, looks good but you might end up eating some of that paper.
Not bad but not very good. Ridiculously slow. Quality of food seemed good and looked good, but my berry pancakes were practically floating in compote. The pancakes themselves were nice, but didn't taste like pancakes because of how much berry was soaked into them. Just tasted like mouthfuls of berries. Also, we added bacon to the breakfast salad for 2.50 Euro and it was literally two tiny strips, probably the equivalent of a single strip of bacon anywhere else. Pretty ridiculous
I'll try a few more dishes here before writing it off, but so far this is the second time here and it's almost too slow to even be worth waiting. The first time we just ordered a soup and waited like 20 minutes.
Ordered lactose free got regular milk.
It's a nice place with decent food and good atmosphere. Still that doesn't help if you can't rely on the quality/ingredients of food served.
extremely slow service. It took 20 min to get the menu and an hour to get food(wasn't able to have food and drink together.) Interior was fine, coffe was neither good or bad, food was disappointing. I had crispy chicken burger, and the meat was not crispy but tough and too chewy. Burger king is better.
Just for drink and enjoying the atmpsphere would be fine, but never take the food.
I won't go there again.
Breakfast/Lunch was great! Good atmosphere! Great service! Not cheap but not too expensive either.
