Nice place for families with small kids. A little bit pricey. Food could be better.

We went here for drinks and a piece of pie during a walk around the Silber See. Very nice restaurant with friendly staff.

Excellent food (try the 14th floor Rother Kupper restaurant - cosy atmosphere, nice play corner for kids), decent kids club (kinderbetreuung) and well organised kids disco are let down by some basic fundamentals. The family appartments are arranged over about 20 housing blocks - some are about 600m - 800m and 4-6 lifts away from the restaurant and swimming pool complex via internal corridors. The buildings date from 1974, as do the decor and lifts. It can take 15-20 mins to walk/lift with small kids from your room to the restaurant(s). This gets very tedious even 2x return journey/day. After a week of 4 course buffet and tiny lifts you get a 'Alice in Wonderland' feeling that the corridors are getting ever longer and the lifts ever more crowded. The 'appartments' have one double bedroom and an unusable sofa bed in the living room; we got no sleep when we tried it and even worse when the kids shared it. The pool is extremely overcrowded unless you use it at lunchtime or after dinner. the air temperature is enough to turn even tough kids blue in 30 mins. the main pool feels barely heated. The indoor kids play center is about 500m from the main hotel; not fun in -5C with snow. Even paying well over e200/night you still have to pay extra for each kid 5+ which seems a bit 'cheap'. For many 'events' and 'activities' that one would expect to be inclusive e.g. ballet, there is an extra cost of upto e20/kid/hr. The hotel is very isolated. If there is no snow there is literally nothing to do within 20km for kids. In winter, with permanent fog it can become quite depressing after a week. The only thing well worth visiting is the 'Kunstwerk' in Sondheim about 4km for exquisite jewellery (Merano glass/olive wood) and arts and crafts (Am Kirchberg 4, check display and the presentations inside the hotel).
