Might look a little like a tourist trap, but has a great selection of good food, is an ideal spot to chat around the table (being hungover) and has a friendly staff.

Serves a pretty authentic curry-wurst! Plus many other dishes; a sufficient range to suit most palates. Had a great atmosphere when I visited, it is very close to many other attractions and in a row of restaurants, so they must keep their standards up or people will walk elsewhere. That was certainly the case when I dined here.

Great spot to stop for a beer or to eat. Just spent a week in Berlin and our crew of 7 friends ate here at least 5 times. We had just about everything on the menu including breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night drinks. I'd highly recommend their banana-hefeweizen or other mixed beer drinks. The staff was always friendly and helpful.

Great experience!
First night in berlin and this was our first stop. We wanted a good outdoor cafe and stumbled upon 1840. The atmosphere was electric, the service was very fantastic and the food was splendid. We got the 2 meatballs with potato salad. The dish looked just like regular pub food, but once we started eating it we realized it was well thought out. If you want a great atmosphere outside with great beer and food, this is the place for you! Simple and perfect.response / report this review -

Okay place for lunch. We had a couple of beers, currywurst, and the chicken salad. The servings were large and fairly tasty. It was quite empty when we were there, but it was also fairly late for lunch (2pm?).

It's a german restaurant in the heart of Berlin. I ordered the wiener schnitzel with fries (and my parents had the salmon and pork foot). We waited an hour for the food and it arrived cold. Just great. The waiters told us lies about my mother ordering later which caused issues in the kitchen (lie). And no apologies or compensation in the way of a drink or dessert meant we left with cold food in our belly and an annoying mood. Will never return

Very traditional and super cosy. The waiters are very comforting. The beer and the food is Really good! A little expensive though. But still a must go location.

Very cool place in an old building that makes for a great atmosphere. The place was nearly full when we ordered but they managed to bring our food over quickly. An overall pleasant experience.
