Front desk staff accommodated early arrival as soon as the housekeeping was done (had to wait a couple of hours but not their fault). Had breakfast buffet just before it was closing. The lady there gave a 8 EUR discount because she felt I didn't eat much. Convenient to the airport with shuttle on demand.
The hotel itself is nice and well kept. The rooms are nicely furnished with nearly all necessary facilities if a little small (I would have loved a fridge). There is a funky smell but that seems to be a berlin problem. The staff are wonderful, welcoming and excellent customer service. The food is excellent and the bar very well serviced and stocked if a little pricey. Overall I would recommend this hotel highly.
This hotel is clean and has no odor of cigarette smoke, except perhaps outside by the pool where people are allowed to smoke. They have friendly front desk staff and a cooler stocked with incidentals. The elevator was large for German elevators. They would compare to a small to medium US elevator. I give it only 3 stars for a couple of reasons. First, the room was HOT. We turned down the air to the lowest setting, and the fan to the highest, and it was still blistering hot. I went to the front desk and told them about it and the gentleman went to our room to check it out. He told my husband "yes, it is a little warm." We ended up opening up the window, which resulted in a bunch of mosquito bites. The coffee makers in the room will only work with the makers proprietary coffee/tea plastic units. I just wanted some hot water for my preferred teabags, nope. It absolutely will not make just hot water. I did ask for a hot water pot from the front desk and they delivered it to our room (thank you!). If you've got bad knee's you may want to look at their showers before you get a room. The shower system is in a "keyhole" shape, and a good 1.5 foot step up over the tub ledge to get in. The water pressure and temps were great (no cold shots from toilet-flushing's). Our room had a stocked refrigerator and common in-room safe. Now, to describe the bed. We had a queen size bed. It was firm, which was fine but there was no mattress pad at all. Just a mattress and a fitted sheet. Not what I call comfortable. The box spring was similar to a hide-a-bed. Every time one of us moved, or rolled, it was like riding a wave on the ocean. Overall, besides the uncontrollable heat wave, the room was satisfactory. Heads-up, there is an OUTDOOR, unheated pool only.
Lastly, I'd like to touch upon the restaurant. The food was fabulous! Really, every morsel of food from the restaurant was excellent. We had the salmon and it was cooked perfectly. I had the sea bass and I'll say it was the best I'd ever had. The service was 67% great. Our first server (lunch) was friendly and very professional. Our dinner server was a blond young lady. What's weird is that she was very friendly and courteous to my husband but she turned your body so she faced my husband the whole time and spoke to him only. I thought "what the heck?" I actually gave her my drink order to her back, she never looked at me at all. What the ???. I'm not sure if it was a cultural thing but I walk BESIDE my husband, not behind him. I expect the equal courtesy. Kinda made me angry, which the other server picked up on and took over our table. He was professional, courteous, and helpful with our questions. So, yes I definitely recommend the restaurant. It's likely the rudeness was just her age and inexperience. You will want to try the sorbet, it's heavenly.
Ideal location with excellent soundproofing from the adjacent airport. Unfortunately no refrigerator in room or facilities to hang basic hand washing which most travellers desire. Wonderful meals in restaurant and breakfast is amazing. An excellent hotel.
Very nice hotel a 15 minute walk or 5 minute ride to Tegel Berlin airport. In the middle of nowhere but a perfect location if you have an early flight. Good restaurant and helpful staff. Free shuttle to airport.
Clean, staff speak good English. They can charge a lot because it is so close to airport. Parking was 22 Euros for one night. Food was great.
The only thing going for this Mercure hotel is it's convenient location at the Berlin Tegel airport. The decor is dated and the rooms are badly in need of an update. Our bathroom flooded when we drained the tub only to have the water poor out of a drain in the bathroom floor. The beds were not comfortable. The staff was friendly and professional but they are hampered by the facilities they work in.
Not the newest, but modern, nice hotel with friendly staff and a good restaurant. Very clean.
Very close to the airport, which is good. A room I stayed was not so bad and very quiet in spite of facing ro the runway. Staff was relatively friendly. But since the location is isolated, there is a few options for restaurants. You can go to restaurants in the airport using complementary shuttle or a restaurant in the hotel. I went to the one kn the hotel. Staff at the restaurant was no so friendly and price was expensive.
Hotel is clean and updated on the inside, BUT!
Most of the staff was not friendly.
Hotel is very cheap - coffee and tea is an additional charge?!?
Room service and restaurant had a very poor selection.
Hotel is within walking distance from the airport, but the entrance is down a long unlit road through a park. Not a safe walk at night or at dusk.
If you have a long layover and want to stay close it is a decent option but expensive at Euro 169 for a room. They told us breakfast was included, but it was an added Euro 20 charge.
