This place isn't really a museum but rather an unorganized archive. There is a lot of interesting exhibits there but they are scattered among boards filled with text and, occasionally, pictures. Some of the stories presented there are truly amazing, but it's really hard to find a path through the museum that would provide you with a consistent chronological narration. Some of the exhibits seem outdated and left unrevised for years. Parts of the exhibition are poorly prepared and out of place. All in all, the place would be worth a visit, was it not for a high admission price (14.50€). Audioguide is not included in the price of the ticket. You have to pay extra to take photos.

What experience! Here You can easily understand how tewrrible the situation was. Really well done museum. They should increase the available languages on the earphones guide.

Somebody printed a book and pasted it on the walls of this museum. There is no timeline or a plan. It is just a random old collection of information and artifacts of the wall.

The price is way to high. I would give five euro for it. The museum about the cold war looked better and is better priced.

It is the most terrible Museum in the World. If you a reasonable and smart guy, don´t visit it. It´s dangerous, really. Think about you children and your health.

It´s not a real museum. They only make money. That´s all. Believe me guys. You must pay 15,00 pro person and 5 Euro extra for Photo Permission. Don´t go here it´s terrible. I hope , you´ll read this massage.

For me it's overpriced, I had like a 2€ discount for be a student, but still, it's overpriced, I wanted the audio guide but it was 5€ extra, then the guy saw my camera and told me that I had to pay 5€ to take photos, so I chose the photos instead of the audio guide. Once I was in the museum I saw the first part and upstairs some random guy walked directly to me and showed me a paper which said he was asking for money so his "association" could build an institution for deaf people (also he was acting like a deaf), and naively I have him 5€, I never do that, but was the way he approached to me that I did it automatically. The he sinically pointed in his piece of paper that the minimum was 20€! Then I said I didn't had that and asked for my 5€ and he ran. All of this inside the already expensive museum!
Now, talking specifically about the museum, it has a lot of info, I think they could reduce it to the very important. Then you get lost there, there are signs where you suppose to go, but they aren't clear. The bathrooms are dirty. And again, there's a lot of info, more that the objects that you can find. They let in lots of people so for moments it is very crowd. For me it didn't worth it, not even if it is cheap or free; there are lots of great museums in Berlin, much more interesting, cool, and with reasonable prices, where you can actually find the history that contains Checkpoint Charlie "Museum". If you go there, I just recommend to take a pic to the Checkpoint Charlie and to enter to the museum's shop, they have cool stuff.

The museum is jam-packed with riveting and rare material. However, it is very poorly laid out with no flow or direction. The auto-tour did not correlate with the material. There was barely any numbers to link the material to the auto tour. As a result, there was no point in paying for the auto tour as I just walk around myself and read the material. You would need a entire day to read every piece of information. I think the disorganization and layout of all the material lets this museum down. It would benefit from a site map or foot prints on the ground to indicate the order in which each room should be visited.

I first visited the "Haus am Checkpoint Charlie" in 1984 when I was in the RAF and Checkpoint Charlie was the only crossing point for military personnel. Then the "Haus" occupied the last building in the street before the crossing and was a well-presented and fascinating museum with genuine escapee artifacts. I visited again in July 2017 and the much-larger museum now occupies several frontages. The contents have grown to include pre-war Berlin and other struggles against totalitarianism and is still fascinating. It is a "must see" in Berlin but leave yourself lots of time to take it all in.

Poorly curated museum. A lot of interesting information but poorly thought-out presentation. Very warm in summer and not conducive to long contemplative visits.

The museum chronicles the Cold War. The most interesting parts are all the escape stories. They have the actual cars that were used to help people escape from the Communist side, while also showing how people hid to escape. The museum also includes stories about the various tunnels people built to escape. It really is a show of innovation during desperation. It's very informative.

Outside, they have a remnant of the Berlin Wall. They also have actors acting as soldiers at Checkpoint Charlie.

The audioguide is supplemental to what you see/read, but I could do without it. It was an extra 5 Euros.

I can see why this place gets mixed reviews. Firstly it is really big inside, many levels and different rooms and corridors, you could miss complete sections of it if you are not careful. Secondly it is almost all written accounts of different people and events so lots of reading. Many walls are just covered in written material, in both English and German. But if you are interested in how people crossed the wall and what it was like living at that time then you could spend hours in here reading all the fascinating information. Some of the accounts are truly heartbreaking and others so inspiring.
