Horrendously overpriced compared to other cities in Germany or around the world. Quality of service is one of the worst I have ever seen and experienced. Delays, cancellations, ticket machine miss functions, (they will still try to fine you for not having a ticket) dirty and smelly trains and busses, I was absolutely shocked!
If you can spend you money on a taxi, rent a car or go by a bike (the bike is in most cases equally as fast prbly +10/15 min).
I can say without doubt that KVB is the worst public transport company in Germany. There are so many deficiencies that you don't know where to start. The first and the most important one if you care about going on time to your destination are delayes. Delays are a daily thing, with trains being delayed for "technical reasons" or missing without a reason at all. So if you have a flight or something important to catch, plan beforehand for the inexplicable delays. Also of daily occurrence are trains stopping in the middle of the tracks for minutes at times.
The second one is price. Ticket prices here are the most expensive in Germany, more expensive than that of other big cities like Berlin, Frankfurt or Stuttgart. A single trip without transfer or changing train costs 2.80 euros and since you can't really get anywhere without changing lines that means buying another ticket. So you would think a day ticket would be a better choice, but that one costs 8.5 euros! And the ripoff continues with the weekly ticket 25.10 euros and the monthly ticket 90 euros. But mind you, you can't travel to Bonn with neither one even though it's just 25 minutes away by train. That would cost you a cool 7.80 euros for a one way ticket.
The third one is the overall service you get for paying all that premium. You get ticket vending machines that don't accept banknotes, debit and credit cards (you're supposed to pay in coins, good luck finding 8.50 euros in coins for your day ticket). You get trains without air conditioning even when it's blazing hot outside, you get a lot of begars asking for money in and outside the trains. The least funny of the kvb services are drunkards roaming around uncontained worse than the zombies of walking dead series, harassing anything even remotely resembling a woman, even though there's a alcohol ban on all stations and trains that no one seems to care. See, the KVB would happily fine you 60 euros for traveling without one of their overpriced tickets but they sure as hell don't mind drunkards and begars roaming around in their trains.
As a closure I would say KVB is the perfect example of what a public transportation company SHOULD NOT BE. Delayed or missing trains, exorbitant prices and terrible services are not what a beautiful city like Cologne deserves.
Terrible experience!!!
On 07/05, during my weekend trip to Colonge, I took the bus 132 to Heumarkt. The bus was quite crowded, and I got into the bus from the back door, so it took a while to go from the back door to the ticket machine at the front.
When I was about to put my coin into the machine to buy the ticket, there was a supervisor asked me for the ID and I gave him mine then continue to buy the ticket. However when I finished buying ticket, he gave me a fine paper and ask me to pay 60 Euro because he thought I didn't buy the ticket and convicted me of fraud. Although I tried to explain that I just came in, the bus was crowded and it took time to move from the back door to the machine at the front, I was not intend to commit the fraud he seemed not to care about it!! Then I sent KVB an email about what happened, but it's like weeks and they didn't reply!!!!
The worst public tram service ever. Atleast 15 days a month I have issues with my tram commuting to work. Imagine how many people get affected in their morning schedules. We are paying 100 bucks every month and this is the poorest service that we can get out of it. Honestly KVB, either you improve your service or get the hell outta your service and leave the way for new better service company which would provide flawless tram services.
The KVB is a joke as a public tranport business and because words are not enough to describe how caotic it is, i will just describe what comes in to my head right now:
First of all; the prices of the tickets is outrageous; but its kinda ok if you have a service that can accomplish the mainly basics; but sadly its all against what you can expect.
Repeated delays and trains cancelled because of technik problems; line problems; door problems; and so on.
Were is the air ventilation in the trains? In the summer i fell like im getting toasted and in the winter i feel like i will tranform into an ice cube.
Trains are sometimes so dirty that my shoes sticks into the floor; and when you come into Neumarkt train station? Oh jesus; you find all you can think of; since drug addicts until drunked people all over it; and you just cannot simply walk 10 footsteps until someone asks you for money 3/4 times.
My parents live in Köln since the 90's and said to me that most of the trains still the same; so my main question is simple: where in the world in a million people city like Cologne (where people pays daily for public transportation) goes all the money?
Certainly to fill someones pockets.
As someone here wrote; sadly its a perfect example that public tranportations just doesn't work.
Köln is a great and beautiful city with beautiful people and i give 5stars without a single doubt; but giving 1star to this joke company is to be kind. Sad that i cant give it a ZERO.
Delays, cancellations, bad information service. The timetables on app, website, or train station are inaccurate and never right at all. The payment method only with coins is more then inconvenient. Drunk, aggressive and drug abusing people in the train stations and no security service to provide safety for people who travel alone or handicapped ones. Sitting over 15 minutes to wait for a scheduled train that never got cancelled is more then annoying. KVB shows perfectly how public transport does not work. It's an embarrassment that this company didn't evolved in the last 10 years or seek help in other cities where the public transportation works perfectly fine.
1.90 bucks for 1 to 4 trainstations and if you want to change the train in between, you need to pay twice. It's just ridiculous.
