The training machines are in a good condition. Separated on two floors, where the upper level is for machine and weight workout. On the floor below it's more like a "free-style" area. All in all good club, but the changing room is pretty tight, so it gets squeezy in prime-time
The worst fitness club I have ever attended
I go to the gym regularly. I make an effort to do sports every day for at least an hour despite an extremely busy work schedule. I go to this gym because it is the only one that works for me in terms of location (I have to somehow manage to register each morning while working), no choice.
Today I escaped the office for one hour to attend the cycling class of Patricia (Thursday night indoor cycling).
In the last 10 minutes of the hour my boss messaged me with an emergency, I looked at my phone and she started jelling at me. Not understanding German she orchestrated the 3 people in the first line to turn around point and jell at me. I didn’t understand anything else but the pointing and her requirement to read my text to everyone outloud which I said I happily would.
I understand one needs to focus, but sometimes emergencies happen.
While a couple of the people at the cycling class are in the gym all day and every day, I do not have the luxury of having that amount of free time, and with a global business role, emergencies can happen also at night.
I couldn’t answer my boss, she shamed me in front of everyone and that made it impossible for me to concentrate in the class anymore turning the hour into a waste of time.
While I understand it is important to maintain order and focus in the class, I think Patricia needs to be a bit more understanding as I am not a teenager looking at the phone all the time, but something clearly came up, looked at the phone for a few seconds and I needed to reply with a couple of words. Needless to say I didn’t enjoy the dose of public humiliation. I am not coming to her class again.
On the other hand Jörg and his EMS training sessions are great. He is very flexible and enables me to maintain a discipline dispite a busy life. He makes it happen.
Having said that, Monday and Tuesday cycling is very good.
Also Monday yoga is worth a visit. The instructor that day is very good, while the rest of the days, it changes a lot.
Good gym but no parking place. Monthly fee a bit expensive
Nice courses, no swimming pool, kids room for moms from morning till afternoon and weekends.
Its really good gym
It's small and usually crowded. Especially the free weight area is way too small for the amount of people who usually train there, it has only one squat rack! For the offered service, it's quite expensive. The staff is friendly and helpful though, which is good.
Horrible customer service, very mismanaged
the managerial style of this gym is just speechless.
I was here for the 4th time and still don't get to register.
only 2 people who can let you register and somehow they leave before 18h? How can people who actually work in the morning register ? Like take a day off for gym registration ?!?! Who does that ?
Second, when you make an appointment they will not honor your time. First I made an appointment and then they just make me wait , I didn't get to meet the customer service coz I was sick of waiting.
Third, they don't honor their words either, today first thing in the morning I called them to check if it is possible to make an appointment. And then they say they call me back , after 11am they called me back during my meeting So I couldn't pick up. I dealed back to them Then they say that they will call me back again. Ok , nothing happened. I come to the gym the reception apologize and gave me day pass to work out but still couldn't give me an appointment. Geeezzzz it is an appointment for registering gym. They make it so hard like they are on purposely trying to keep people away from them.
Just not very intelligent.
Don't know how to tell you to avoid this, cause obviously I think you can't.
Worst gym ever! :(
I know this gym for over 2 years now and I have seen many others so here is an IMHO qualified verdict. Note that I am a member and not affiliated with either Firtness First (FF) nor a competitor. Also I cannot comment on the courses, since I haven't done those a lot. I just hear that sometimes they are just cancelled.
Equipment:
The equipment at FF is not top of the line but reasonably OK. General condition in Bonn is poor to fair. I never noticed any maintenance efforts. Defects occur regularly. Fixing something takes them waaaay toooooo loooong. Downtime per defekt is like 2-3 months. Totally unacceptable.
In Bonn the situation is particularly bad since the gym is rather small. Almost every machine (if available at all) exists only once (except cardio) which makes it extra bad if something brakes. E.g. the only leg extension machine they have is broken since 2.5 months now. the original sign they put up had the date of the breakdown on it. 22.02.. The sign has long been lost itself of course
Recently there was a petition started by memebers to complain about the poor condition of the place. When I last checked already around 100! people had signed it
Price:
Membership fees are on the high side as compared to other gyms and in addition are automaticly increased each year (I assume to optimally "harvest" people not cancelling their gym membership out guilt).
Other issues with the Club in Bonn in particular:
Air!:
The club is located in a regular office builing so the ceiling is rather low for a gym and the air quality is accordingly low in general.
There has been an airco unit installed now but somehow it doesn't manage to control the heat. Also near the outlets it it chillingly cold so the standard solution on warm days is still to open two windows on the upper floor.
In conclusion the complaints about poor air quality of other people here hold up even with the Airco installed now.
Trainers:
The trainers are nice people but there are too few and they can only do so much. Contractually every memeber has the right to have a check-up of 30mins with a trainer every 6 weeks. It is however close to impossible to get such an appointment.
There is a "trainer point" where there should be a trainer that could be approached with questions and looks after the people training. However there is normally no one there or the person is busy.
As a result you better know what you're doing because you sure are not watched after.
Crowd:
The people training there are OK in general. Maybe a few more idiots than on average.
Especially during peak hours (17:00-21:00 and in the weekends) the club gets far too crowded however.
Theft:
There seem to have been cases of theft from the lockers lately. Not much the club can do really but worth mentioning.
Great gym, with more class offerings than other gyms in the area. The building is beautiful, with a view of the marketplace. Highly recommended.
