Good food but very cramped spaces
I've been to this Cafe May on several occasions for the breakfast buffet. I always considered it offer great value for money. Like many Cafe Mays, it's an exceptionally cosy place and has so much charm.
But let's move on to my most recent visit. The truth is I'm angry with myself for having decided to stay given my first impression was not great. The presentation of the buffet was poor. It was also clear that prices had (rightly) gone up, but the breakfast had been cut back. For instance, there weren't any mini Schokoküssen or bitesize pieces of cake on offer and there was a limited selection of sliced cheese. Worst of all were the Brötchen. They were stale and chewy as were the croissants (Have you ever wondered how cafes store scores of Brötchen overnight in buildings infested with mice?). In fact, they were there worst croissants I've ever spit out in my life. There was absolutely no love or pride put into the preparation or presentation of the breakfast on that day. Maybe it was a one-off. However, I have seen the Cafe May near Hammer Park suffer a similar deterioration.
My tip: Avoid this Cafe May and the one across form Hammer Park, and try the one on Osterstrasse (I'd expect them to still put on a good buffet) or in Horn next to the library.
Ok
Extremely good breakfast buffey, totally worth the price! Cakes are also delicious. Only problem is that it gets crowded very fast. Make sure you check all rooms for a place and also outside.
Staff is very nice and treat you well.
Café furnished like a vintage apartment which gets pretty lively at lunch and in the early afternoon. Thumbs up for coffee drinks. Only con: no WiFi
Nice brunches and cocktails :)
Good for cake & coffee.
A cozy place, great to chill and relax with a sweet treat or with a long drink.
Best price value for breakfast!
