Let the beers keep flowing. Never with an empty glass at those place. The schweinhaxe platter we got was glorious. Apfel strudel was the best ever. Would have given a five stars, but on the second visit on the same week, the service wasn't as good, but it was also saturday dinner time. Id recommend highly making reservations on weekends

Exceptionally tasty food in large portions and the alt was the best in town. Would have given 5 stars but the server was a bit gruff.

Terrible service from an older waiter maybe in his late 50's or 60's. Was very rude to my colleague. The food was nothing to rave about. We had the house specialty, and while the intial "wow" factor was there, the pork leg we found it very dry and unflavorful. The mash potatoes were probably the only thing from the meal that was good. Would not recommend.

Our first meal after landing in Dusseldorf - we wanted to try our German cuisine and found this place on TripAdvisor. They had great reviews and pictures looked great.
It’s a huge restaurant and only a couple servers so I see them working hard. The bf got a house beer and I got a healthy pour of wine. The menus are not in English and there are no pictures. To order, we just scrolled through the pictures on our phones and pointed to what we want.
1st dish - in Spanish it’s called codillo which is this big piece of meat with really crispy skin. The meat was very tender but I felt like it lacked taste. The mash potatoes and sauerkraut were delicious.
2nd entree - looks like a burger patty. Now this was absolutely amazing and flavorful. Scalloped potato and creamy vegetables were great too.

Wonderful traditional Brau Pub. They brew their own beer - Alt- & v good it is. Good traditional menu - be prepared for lots of meat. Schweinehaxe (pork knuckle) is a must. The beer is served in small glasses which they keep putting in front of you (necessary as the beer is v fresh and doesn't keep). You'll share space at long tables with whoever else is there. Reservations usually not necessary.

This is absolutely the most do if you're visiting Düsseldorf. The place is an authentic German restaurant and brewery. Just ask for the traditional pork plates, are delicious.

The place looks nice but we had a bad experience with a Spanish waiter who was not only helpful at all but so rude.
He approached us talking directly to us in Spanish since he noticed we were also Spanish which we thought it was nice until he served us Alt Bier without asking him. When we kindly asked if there was anything else we could drink instead he reacted really bad, started to shout at us, he looked completely mad We started a discussion and after it we left the place.
I don't know about the food they serve but can only advise you to go somewhere else if the waiter is the Spanish one.response / report this review -

Having read number of positive reviews about Schumacher, we decided to have a lunch here. I must say that the service worse than here I have never met before.
The food is fine, but most of traditional restaurants in the city center can offer the same quality of food with outstanding service. “Cheese snack” in the menu is literally bread with butter and two slices of cheese from supermarket, with half cherry tomato on top.
The waiter was gloomy and rude from the start, behaving like he makes a favor to us. When he brought a bill, I noticed that prices in menu and in the bill differ (not much, about 50 cents). Once I pointed to it, he started shouting on me and perked his finger in my face. When he had finally seen that he made a mistake he plumped down the money (50 cents) on the table and left. I would expect apologies for the wrong bill and explanations, but no one approached us. Apparently, it is a normal behavior for waiters here.
The mood was killed for the rest of the day.response / report this review
