An interesting site to behold
This is an interesting site that's most definitely off the beaten path.
Dating back to the 1940s, this abandoned monastery is largely in ruins these days. Nevertheless, it's still a relatively popular pilgrimage site for Armenian Christians visiting the area. The monastery itself is a good couple of miles from the parking lot next to the Besparmak mountain road, and the path down to the ruin is quite steep.
Once you get there you'll find a singularly moody compound, largely overgrown with vines and citrus trees. Exploring the monastery thoroughly takes about an hour and a half. Care is bidden in a few places, since some parts of the upper floors are about ready to collapse.
On the whole, this is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you enjoy long walks in mountain woods, and exploring contemporary ruins, there's plenty for you here
