You'd find this location when you are enroute the Sultan Teke mosque. Please do come down from your car, wave to the flamingoes and taste the salt lake. You'd thank me later.

This is NOT a destination in its own right. If you are passing by, pop down the road and take a picture of the mosque from across the lake, all very beautiful. Even lovelier when the flamingos are around.

I went with my car all around it, it's clean and well maintained, flamingos are around usually in January, an amazing nature all around.

Larnaka's Salt Lake is an ecosystem which encompasses great history and significant ecoligical value. It's a wetland full of flamingos and other migrating birds during the winter time. Hala Sultan Tekke gives a majestic oriental feel to the whole scenery. Follow the nature trail from Kamares aqueduct for a wonderful walking experience next to the lake :)

It looks like salt desert, but as far you go as more salt mud you'll have under your shoes. Definitely worth to step in for a while.

We were here in November, when the lake was mostly dried up. The ground is quite muddy, so it good to come with hiking boots. During this time of year, the flamingos nest here, and we got to see two flocks, one of which took off relatively close to us.
