Bon Siman kiterbuddies. Did you see the forecast for the coming week? 30 plus knots. It's thrilling but with these extreme winds the extreme injuries can happen. Did you ever hear about how a story converts into something sensational after being re-told by 10 persons? The Internet can be a very informative medium but also a very confusing one once a story got interpreted wrong. News medias wrestle with this on a daily basis. On my spot I teach kite surfing in a way that we put safety first and above anything. In the years I teach and the thousands of students that took lessons with me I have had 3 accidents that are worth mentioning. But fortunately I am trained to deal with these injuries and the owner of a trauma kit and above all a licensed trainer. Unfortunately I am only human and not always right with the diagnosis. Fortunately the times I had an accident on the spot I was also accompanied by a medical trained person. Recently a person that was kiting on my spot, not somebody that was in classes, had a severe accident. The person is recovering and doing fine after some extensive surgeries. Kite surfing is an extreme sport and before you take classes you are told so and you even sign a form that you are aware of these dangers. Nevertheless we do everything within our power to avoid injuries but diagnose and take measurements based on the gravity of the injury and our actual knowledge if it happens. Remember we are not medics but we are trained like a person that drives an ambulance to stabilize a person and take the best appropriate action based on the symptoms and situation presented. Yes, accidents happen sometimes on my spot. We never publish this because you have to respect the peoples privacy and not everything needs to be published for the reasons explained above. Lately my spot is prone to ongoing disappointing stories of being extremely dangerous where a lot of serious accidents happen. This is not true and probably told by people that are number 10 in the story telling list. On Curacao we have 2 kite spots. Everybody is welcome to visit my spot and people that already kite independently should be aware that they are participating in an extreme sport. Extreme sport means that extreme injuries can happen. Keep on kiting and pass on the good vibes but stop telling nonsense or tell it just straight in my face to receive a first and not second or third or maybe 10th persons far from the reality horror story. Bon Siman!
