To clarify, this review is not about the food. Just the service.
Walked in, all friendly, and asked if there was a table. This gentleman who was probably in his 50s-60s told us nothing was available. At first we thought it was a joke as the restaurant inside was at about 40% capacity. Outside empty. After another minute, he came back and was really blunt to us and said “I already told you, we are completely busy, if you come back make a reservation.” We arrived at 6.55 but was he really expecting it to be completely packed in the next mins. I’m just so shocked at how rude he was - his attitude never made us feel so unwelcome that I felt I was to get lost. Is asking for a table 2 on a Sunday evening a big ask? Fine if you’re busy but to be turned away when people are leaving or when it’s largely empty is rare. Shame as the food seemed great from reviews but this experience makes us never want to try it again
Note - we walked past an hour later, after something else to eat, and saw plenty of space still. People walking out were those we saw in the restaurant earlier. Plenty of tables available. Makes me wonder if we’re turned away because of how we look…
It was nice to be able to make a reservation by phone, would be even better if they had that process online.
We had a reservation for 7 PM, and it was promptly honored and we both ordered the rice table for 49.95 NAF
The meal comes with a complementary starter (appetizer) which was hot and delicious.
The full rice table came very quickly only 20 minutes after being seated.
The two types of sate were a little dry but other than that, all of the dishes were very tasty and authentic Indonesian tasting
That being said since we don’t live in Netherland anymore, it’s a thrill to be able to have rice table when we visit Curaçao from the USA
The restaurant could double their alcohol sales if the servers were to visit the table a little more frequently. It is a deliver and disappear service!!
We visit each year, and will do so again in 2025. Thanks Johan
I got the rijsttafel, and my word was it exquisite! A wide variety of different meats, each one unique and full of flavor, the skeewers and the sweet and sour pork were especially delicious. The egg roll to start was also a delight.
It was a great meal it was enough for 4 of us. Would definitely recommend it, great portions and to reiterate the meat was just so great
Indonesian restaurant in small mall
Can highly recommend
Suggest the “rijst tafel” ; a great variety of delicious dishes in manageable portions
I recently celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary at Batik Asli. Talking to Johan the owner I was telling him that I had my first dinner with my future wife at Rijsttafel Indonesie on February 14th 1989. To my amazement he told me that - at that time - he was the owner of that place also!
My reservation at Batik Asli was at 1930 hours for 18 guests. My wife and I got there 30 minutes earlier and Johan showed me the separate room he had prepared for our group (see photos).
The food was delicious and the service was top (the waitresses were very friendly, attentive and always smiling).
We had such a good time until the owner sheepishly said that he wanted to actually close at 2200 hours.
These people work hard serving lunch and dinner - reason enough to be grateful and we left smiling and laughing all the way home.
I think the photographs alone will convince you to visit Batik Asli.
And if you are in a hurry, they do offer take-out.
truly worthy! finger licking awesome
Very good food at reasonable prices. The experience is excellent.
Food was OK but not as good as other places on Curacao we've eaten or even other Indonesian I've had in the past. Servers were lovely but we found the owner quite chippy, even a bit rude. I had the feeling our treatment would have been different if we were Dutch or locals. We don't recommend this place.
You get good food and good sevice over there.
Good Indonesian restaurant at reasonable price.
Best Indonesian food I've had since my father passed away in 1988! It's out of the way but certainly worth the drive.
Nice dishes good taste
Super gegeten wat een heerlijke keuken
Hier wordt je echt welkom geheten door de gastheer.
Je voelt je thuis komen als je Indisch bent opgevoed.
De gerechten zijn authentiek en daarom ook heerlijk.

We were originally greeted/served by the manager/owner, whose attitude was pretty disgusting. When I enquired about what a couple of items on the menu were (this was my first Indonesian meal), he responded with "I don't know, I'm not the chef". In general he seemed to rush us, was very patronising, and didn't seem to want us there. We observed his behaviour with other customers of a certain colour was very welcoming and visibly different. The other staff though were very nice and extremely helpful, and the food was amazing.
Best Indonesian on the island. Their big rijst tafel box is also great value for money. The owner is a nice guy who is always in for a chat and the restaurant is also nicely decorated. Service is very good.
We are so happy, that there is finally a restaurant not too far away from Jan Thiel Beach, that offers an excellent Indonesian Ricetafel for reasonable prices. It is located on Caracasbaaiweg right behind Burger King in a really exotic plant and water setting of the new Eden shopping center. They have tables in the airconditioned restaurant or outside under palm trees.
