Great restaurant on Fogo. Best food we had in Cape Verde. Long waits possible, so be prepared or arrive early.

The restaurant is now at a new location with a nice veranda overlooking the old part of São Filipe and the ocean. Even though most foreigners rather eat outside, the owners have decorated the inside really nicely, conferring the room a pleasant atmosphere. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only downside was that the grilled tuna steak and the "serra" steak were very dry, which spoiled their taste. Additionally the choice of vegetables should try to include more leafy veggies instead of mainly roots. In an island as Fogo with such a large fruit production, it was surprising that the only fruit they had for dessert was banana.

Interesting: authentic senegalese food on Cape Verde? Well, the owners are a couple from Cape Verde and Senegal, so: yes.
The food is pretty good, average to advanced prices, very nice ambiente (nicely designed interior, nice patio with view to the sea outside), friendly and welcoming service.
It is not a Michelin-star-earning restaurant, but the senegalese food is authentic and well-made and above average for sure.
They also have a small and nice souvenir shop inside.
As a half-caboverdian/half-german I can fully recommend this little restaurant/bar as well as for diner as for a drink or two.
Pro-tip (independently of this bar): don't drink that shitty portuguese beer you'll find all over Cape Verde (Super Bock - it does not even match the German standard for beer: it contains cheap corn malt and such shit)!
Drink the local-brewed "Strela". Brewed according to the German "Reinheitsgebot" and pretty good even for a german beer lover (well, nothing better than Flensburger Pils).response / report this review -
