I was totally amazed in the process here for through gates quickly efficiently was very happy with the service there was no stress not like at some of the big international big airports with twice the technology.

I’ve been to this airport about 11 times, and 5 out of the 11 times I’ve had things stolen from my luggage. I highly suggest putting locks on your luggage so this does not happen to you. Security goes fast when you have VIP for $30 CUC. When arriving at the airport they have the luggage corals which move however each time I’ve been they the workers take off all the luggage at the part where it starts to come out creating a lot of congestion of people trying to find their luggage. I find workers are annoyed with the tourists. The women’s washrooms don’t have toilet seats like most of Cuba except resorts.

The place looks quite old, but everything worked smoothly, staff were helpful when checking in but the line was longs with no barriers making it efficient, security is small but we didn't hassle fortunately. The inspection booths before are quite strict and militay like, but the staff were still very nice to us. Although, the toilets are not well maintained as the lighting was dying out and it wasn't very sanitary. The airport was decorated nicely with a selection if tropical plants here and there. The airport is small, but it has gate bridges so there is no hassle. Our flight was delayed because of voluntary passenger embarkment so somebody gave up their seat. Staff sorted it out asap. But also the line was huge and with no organistion, but the view of the runway was beautiful and there were loads of mini souvenir stores near the check in and in departures.

The Cuban airport bathrooms on the top floor before in departures were shocking!! They were even worse then the ones in The City. I wanted to take pictures but, there were three ladies outside the bathroom standing in the entrance of the door watching me.
Please make an effort to make these better, bathroom doors and toilet seats with toilet paper is essential. There are a lot of people spending a lot of money in your country, tipping or vacationing thank you!response / report this review -

Departures area was much nicer than arrivals. The washrooms in arrivals had no toilet paper or soap, so bring your own. Save some CUC money for your departure so you can purchase some snacks. The people are friendly and helpful. Also, lots of Cubans are at the airport looking to change their foreign currency to VIC. They give you a great rate, usually trading at par.

Typical communist style "utilitarian" airport. It is one of the few enclosed Cuban airports besides Havana - Jose Marti airport. It is air conditioned. The terminal has 4-5 airbridges to board the aircraft so no buses/stairs needed in most cases. The inside of the airport is generally unattractive, worn-out, and very basic but it is functional and clean. Check-in, immigration and the security screening area are small so in the afternoons when the larger aircraft to Europe are departing the line-ups are going to be long. In the boarding area there are some small shops and food stands if you want to purchase something to eat. They all take CUC so you can use up the last of your money as it is worthless outside of Cuba. The larger duty-free shop has international brands of alcohol/tobacco products in addition to the Cuban products. Large windows allow in lots of natural light and afford a good view of the aircraft on the apron areas. A smoking room is available but it is poorly ventilated and dimly lit. There is also a VIP lounge that can be entered for an additional cost.

During the passport identification process, I encountered the rudest officer ever. The young lady took about 10 minutes for the simple process and rolled her eyes, played with her hair, and spoke to me rudely - was very unprofessional and lacked formality. The baggage check in took abnormally long and the workers all seemed annoyed. What a terrible experience! The security guards were joking around and did not take anything seriously.

Not bad as airports go there is even a smoking section on the second floor by the gates, right next to the cold beer vendor.

Nice small airport. Tends to be very efficient. At least more efficient than the one in Havana. Workers are also very friendly.

Yes, it is pricey, but which airport isn't? It is small, not very well maintained but it is easy to get in and out. It has Internet for 2 cuc per hour, it has food, cocktails it is fine for me.

My children and I travelled to Varadero Cuba in August. We bought Alcohol and Cigars at Duty Free. I didnt have any CUC left therefore payed in CAD dollars. Cigar shop and duty free shop over charged me. I was charged 2 different rates. The cubans charge whatever rate they want. I only realized it when i arrived home that the lady at the cigar shop overcharged me 10$ CAD. The duty free also charged me double the CAD value for the alcohol I bought. There is a scam going on with the workers, they are becoming very greedy and dishonest. They take advantage of the Canadian generosity. Be aware, always calculate the exchange yourself first when paying in CAD dollars.
