Fastest emigration & security screening in my life - 5 minutes total.

It's like Cuba - something will definitely not work but there're always people willing to help. Small airport, duty-free zone from the 80's (1 big and ~5 small counters total), small food options: pork/chicken/sandwich with fries, cocktails for reasonable price & zone for smokers.

Havana airport is the monument of incompetence and unprofessionalism backed up by a state supported tourist ripoff.

In case you do not get your tourist visa before boarding (in fact i had demanded it, but i was told to get it after landing), you will have to pay $75 per head for that piece of paper. There is a lady filling out the papers, asking for money and doesnt know what a bill or receipt of purchase means. Transaction of unrecorded cash. If you dont buy this paper, you will not be admitted to the country. Nice setup. Everything off the books.

After paying the pumped up price i demand speaking to a person, because i paid for someone else's incompetence. Guess what, no one speaks english in an international airport and they send you from office to office like a ping pong ball. At the end, when the stewardess of cubana airways finally understood what was going on, she said she doesnt care and rejected speaking to me. End of the story.

The airport itself is old and crowded. There is no air conditioning. The moment you step out of the plane you queue up for passport control in a claustrophobic room without daylight and then you queue up again for security check before claiming your suitcase. It took 2 hours to leave the airport. For the return flight it took again two hours to pass the passport and security controls. All these are done very imcompetently by 20 year old girls and boys not speaking proper english and unable to handle tourists cutting the waiting lines.

The best part of the airport was the runway for the return flight taking off.

For a small airport, it was really quite efficient, all of the airport personnel were very professional and helpful.

    2 negative spots:
The lack of simple clear signage, combined with the large crowds who came to collect or see friends and relatives off created a bit of a confused atmosphere. Everyone was simply supposed to know where things were. Not a huge problem as any local could point you in the direction you wanted to go. It was a bit of an issue at the luggage carousels because the bags would come through whichever they felt like going on, despite signage indicating that they were only going to be on a specific one.

The shops in the departure lounge had prices that ranged from 'fair' to, 'reasonable for an airport departure lounge', straight up to 'let's see exactly how much gouging we can get away with'. In some cases you could walk 10m and find similar items at a fraction of the price.

Duty Free Liquor Store in Jose Marti Airport is one of the most price cheating place in the World. How to avoid (a) Take a piece of paper and write by item and its cost printed on it. Add them before you go to the counter. Show your list and total at the beginning of giving the items so that the cash register person can't have a different total - 95% of the customers are cheated who buys more than two items. Also tell in advance that you do not want plastic bag unless it is free or you do want to pay about $1.50 for each . Same problem in the eating places too in the airport as well as out of the airport in many restaurants. As soon as they see that you are careful and keeping track - you should experience no problem

The following is my experience on T3. Do not leave your gifts shopping till the last minute in the airport. There just a couple of shops in the airport and they are much pricier then in Havana, (including postcards, cigars and rum). Plus, the selection of stuff you can buy is quite poor. For example I was hoping to buy Cuban coffee beans, but there was none. General perception communicating with shops cashiers: they hate you. Customs personnel is relatively friendly. You can send your postcards from the terminal (Update: postcards arrived 3 months later).

First of all, I’m Cuban, and it’s very sad to see that the HAV is a mess!!! An international airport is the first impression for tourists, and HAV it’s not really a good one!!! The staff is (mostly) pretty rude, not to mention that they always look for ways to get you money. The airport is quite dirty and you have to wait 1 hour or more for the luggage, even if the airport is not busy. I sincerely hope this situation changes soon As a Cuban, I know they can do it better!!!

Overcrowded and bad information about gates.
The signs are hard to find. The check-ins and Security staff was very slow and the halls was overcrowded as well. My sister was ill and vomited several times that day and we actually got priority in the lines so therefore I’m giving it 2 stars. Still, the airport staff and the gigantic lines is a big problem and I certainly did not enjoy my stay here.

This is a small airport but that's not the problem. The first feeling you get when you land here and enter the airport is "What's that smell?". For such a popular tourist attraction, the airport can certainly be made better.
For example, the rest rooms don't have locks to them and the soap dispensers don't work! The maintenance is fairly poor.
There are atms, information desks and souvenir shops in the airport which is helpful but much work is needed with the cleanliness of the airport. Cabs at the airport are expensive, so you are better off stepping out and then looking for a cab. Take a bus to habana central and look for a cab there to get a better price.

Dear Cuba, I have had a fantastic holiday in your country over the Christmas time. Unfortunately, your airport in havana was terrible. As a nurse, your infection control is woefully inadequate, no soap in the lavatories, doors not closing properly.
We where told that we could exchange your currency into sterling in the departure lounge, we could not. We queued for a drink, the system was totally unorganised. We gave up and eventually had a drink in your downstairs cafe.
You are now an international airport and must recognise this for the health and well being of passengers.

At check in, the staff is asking for a TIP to put friends to sit next to each other. Disgusting toilets. Taking off shoes on dirty floor. Staff is very slow, uninterested and uninformed. Long lines for everything.

Nice facility, few options, often they turn off ac specially when cuban americans arrive. Do not eat their sandwish unless you don't mind feel very bad. Sugest avoid check luggage, things may get lost but not allways.

Small airport. Not so very organized. The gift shops just want your money - of feel free to bargain (ie: this is all I have). Thing available in the airport shops that you could have saved your time carrying (ie: wait to get it on your way out - especially booze). Lots of people wanting to give you a ride - check prices - they vary greatly!

Long queues for anything - one bigger and couple of smaller shops after the check in area, no air conditioning.
Money exchange shop was not working so we were basically required to spend rest of cash on the airport.
FX rates are better in Havana. General charge for taxi to Havana is approx 30CUC so be ready for this.

We went to visit Cuba in early January of this year. The worse airport I have ever been in . No Airconditioning or comfortable chairs to sit in . Only one small duty free shop . Almost no cafe shops or restaurants to choose from . The is no Wifi or connection. They run out of calling cards early in the day . The Lines are long and messy and no one to speak too or complain. The flight was very delayed and the employees at the airport were very rude and unwelcoming . Cuba itself was beautiful to see and the locals were very sweet and friendly .

Bad airport. Group of 4 became group of 2 when departing from this airport because Air Canada needed my sister-in-law to apply for an online visa before check-in. But there is no wifi available before check-in. Wifi is available only after check-in and you have to pay for 30-min usage. Looks run down. Congruent with a lot of buildings in Havana.

I'm currently on a return flight from HAV, Havana, Cuba to JFK, New York, NY aboard JetBlue. My flight to Havana was both on time and pleasant, but this return flight is something else entirely. The plane both arrived late and took off late, the staff at the airport was not communicating any of the numerous gate changes or apologizing for any of the delays that were never told to us passengers. Once aboard the plane the situation was chaotic, people didn't know where they were sitting and throughout the entire process the staff was rude. The pilot made numerous announcements about listening to the crewmen's instructions, "or this [would] not be a good flight to New York." One such instruction included the threat of, "if you are unable to listen to the crew, I'm sure you will not enjoy spending another night in Cuba." So now at this point, we have not been apologized to for the numerous delays or lack of information, but we are being threatened. Great job JetBlue! Maybe the staff on flight 242 and/or in the HAV airport just wasn't the best representation of your airline, but I'm sorry any of us had to endure them.

If they are wanting more tourists, they really need a lot of investment in infrastructure- starting with the airport. Bring patience & be prepared for things like bathrooms without toilet seats, ham sandwich as only food option and no organized boarding system.

Longest wait times I've ever seen, they are not equipped for high traffic! Waited in line 2 hours to check in, they wouldn't tell us when our plane was boarding, and their intercom system is garbage you can't hear anything. When you ask staff they are ALL rude and disrespectful and tell you they don't know. When we finally lined up for boarding we waited in line for one hour to board. Worst airport ever.

Great Airport,, taxis are the scammiest I've seen in any country I've traveled to. Cuba needs a Cuban version of lift or Uber.

The unfriendly young lady at the money exchange next to gate 15 shortchanged me, when I made her aware she gave me the rest with a cold look, there was no 'sorry'. Longest wait for luggage I had and dirty or non functional wash rooms.
