  I studied percussion at HSM for two weeks in 2017. Great experience all around. Although I was familiar with conga prior, HAM gave me a richer understanding. Highly recomended.

  My singing teacher Joanne is really really spiritual
  I was looking for something spiritual which can cover my whole from experiences in Havana and when I met her in the school I felt something was healed and it really helped me to understand a little bit more about Cuba or Havana
  and school was full of air conditioner I felt like I entered into the paradise out of all the sweat under the sun of July
  also water that I could drink there! Something like oasis as somebody in cuba told me that I cannot ask water in somebody's house especially in cuba(because water is really precious incuba)
  And Adalberto's nice and kind explanation of Nuova trova! I cannot forget it!!

  My husband is a drummer, and I am a singer, both of us professional, experienced musicians. Given the reputation of Cuban music culture, I arrived expecting good instructors, but what we got far exceeded our expectations. Havana Music School became our home away from home. My husband's experience with Karel all week filled a gap in his musical education--all those Afro-Cuban beats like songo. And they spent extra time sharing their favorite drummers and beats after class. I loved the technical expertise of Joanne and Barbara, both of whom were warm and generous with their time and culture. They shared more than explanations of the genres originating in Cuba, but also imparted an understanding of the historical and cultural context in which son, bolero, and cha cha cha arose. They teach music for their careers, and are also professional musicians themselves! I took some Afrocuban percussion classes as well from Ahmed--I learned the basics and now can practice my clave and maracas at home. The manager of the operation, Adalberto, was a delight and shared excellent tips on getting around Havana. Essential. His knowledge of history and appreciation for architecture and art helped us better understand Cuban culture and helped frame the rest of the trip so that we could understand better what we were experiencing. It was the trip of a lifetime.

  My 2 friends and I spent a wonderful time at the Havana Music School on our recent trip. We participated in the Afro-Cuban Percussion workshop - a very educational and fun way to learn about Cuban Music, play some percussion instruments, and learn a little salsa dancing!! Alberto and Maurice were talented and charismatic. It's a very fun thing to do, and well worth the modest cost. Oh, and the Cuban coffee was delicious!
  
  If you're interested in doing something like this - send them a message, and it will happen!! Every detail was handled, including sending Guillermo to our Casa to help us catch a taxi. And of course, making sure we got back to our casa in a taxi.

  I made arrangements for a couple of lessons prior to my visit in early March and all worked well. I appreciated ease of making payment via Paypal and the assistance with getting to the school for my initial session as it is a bit out of the center of town.
  
  The lessons worked out well. I had an excellent instructor, the very talented violinist Julian Corrales. The staff were very helpful and most spoke some English - which was a real benefit to us. My second session was a bit more problematic as we had a hard time finding the school again (signage would be helpful here) but it all worked out.
  
  The school seemed very authentic to me - not a huge institution but a small and intimate place with helpful and talented staff. I would plan on more lessons there if we return to Cuba.

  Couldn't been better. Friendly, warm, professional. My flute teacherJosue Borges combined rigor and method in his teaching along with the ability to truly meet me (a mature student) where I was. A very profound experience for which I'm grateful.
