!!! BE AWARE !!! BE AWARE !!!
THEY ARE STEALING FROM YOUR LUGGAGE
I just came back from my holiday and I am missing my belongings.
NEVER LEAVE YOUR VALUABLE ITEMS IN A LUGGAGE IVENT A PHONE CHARGE.
It's disgusting when you know some Basterds who working in a airport is DOING that.

It is an okay airport. When we were leaving back to Toronto, our flight was delayed and the custom area was the worst. We had to empty our back packs and since it was such a rush, there was evening pushing. The food is expensive and we had to survive at the airport for at least 3 hours. If you are coming to this airport make sure you have extra money or else you will not be able to survive. Another thing is when the plane arrived it took about 1 hour to let us in the plane and another 30 minutes to leave.

Simple airport with no jetways. You walk in from the tarmac. Entire facility bears the low-level design quality that’s noticeably characteristic in communist countries. Everything is simply utilitarian.
Customs is very particular with Americans but it was a descent experience overall.response / report this review -

It's a small airport serving the central part of Eastern Cuba. If you attempt to compare it to European or US airports You'll find it coming up short. However it does the job and supports several flights a day to the US and even direct flights to the UK and beyond.

This is the most unwelcoming and discriminatory airport that I have ever encountered. If you desire to be treated like a criminal in a jail, by all means, risk flying into and out of this communist detain mentioned facility.
I arrived with Christmas gifts in tow, to share with my girlfriend's family (she is Cuban). Mostly simple things like clothing, shoes, toys and what seemed innocuous to me.razor blades. Now these items were in checked bags, not carry on.
For this, we were detained 2 hours, made to remove every single item in every bag and then we're robbed of the razor blades.
Upon departure, after going through customs, the typical metal detector and wand exam, an official walked over with a list of all American passengers. One by one we were made to empty every single item in our carry on luggage. And what did they have a fuss over in my bag? A disposable plastic razorthe typical onethey swiftly broke the head off the razor and returned the handle to me. They didn't, however, take the charging cord for my cell phone which could be much more lethal than the plastic razor blade head.
To top it off, our 9am flight was delayed until 8pm. Since the flight was chartered through Va Cuba, no official airline representative was present and I had to purchase 2 more tickets on another airline so escape from this communist detention center they call an airport.
AMERICANS.Do Not use this airport to travel to and from Cuba. Customer service, basic concern for human interaction and consideration is lacking exponentially! Remember, most everything is owned and operated by the government. This means there is no gray areasno common sense only black and white. My advice is to fly into Santiago. Very nice people, no Hassel and no discrimination encountered.
Listen up Cuba: if you want to benefit from Americans visiting and spending money that help your local economy, your service industry needs a major lesson in customer service. This goes for hotelsalso government owned, so service and attitude is that they owe you nothing, are not pleasant; it's as if they hold some higher rank and don't realize that their lack of politeness encourages people not only to not come back, but to also tell everyone within earshot to avoid visiting.
On the plus side, common people in the towns and countryside are most accommodating, helpful, friendly and honest. The food is organic and the country is beautiful! Just don't go expecting customer service of any kind similar to what you would think to be basic; it just hasn't been taught or made to be an important trait.response / report this review -

One word "Brutal". Our arrival and departure were like scenes from a horror movie. There wasn't enough security personnel and no real organization once you made it through customs. With three flights organized at the same time; the airport couldn't keep up. Sadly, our vacation ended and started poorly due to the inefficiencies of their system. We loved our resort, however I would never go back to Holguin!
