It's nice but no the best. It's has a beautiful National Park view with the swimming pool.

Fabulous views, attentive staff. Rooms are on the Spartan side. No room safe.

    The restaurant:

Really excellent food. Great view overlooking park and infinity pool. I had a perfectly cooked steak with gorgonzola. I asked for the chef to add peppercorns on the filet steak before cooking (au poirve) which he did. Served with gorgonzola crumbles and a separate hot gorgonzola sauce. The best in Costa Rica so far. The mashed potatoes were hot. My wife had tuna carpaccio which covered the plate. Tender and tasty. We started with a fresh shrimp cocktail and a Caprese salad. Fresh basil and tomatoes. Simply superior. On Saturday nights, they have a really great local band "G-string Cowboys". Super entertaining. The food is a bit pricey for Costa Rica but the food and entertainment are superior.

Where should I start? This is not a boutique hotel and really not 4 stars maybe 2 stars with a small + due to the view. The location up on the hill is good if you are not planing to walk to the "city" of Uvita, an outside restaurant or to the beach. Therefore you should have a car or love to walk up steep hills. Let's continue with the accommodation. The first impression you get is that you think you chose a real boutique hotel in a nice surrounding. Entrance, pool, bar and restaurant look really good. Beside this the view from the sun deck and the pool area are the real big pluses of this hotel. Approaching your room (even the superior ones) reminds you of a socialist building of the 70s. The interior needs an urgent renewal. The mosquito net was very old and broken, the fridge was rusty and loud (even louder than the surrounding jungle, unfortunately; I would have loved to get disturbed by loud jungle noises). The remaining interior is not up to date as well and does not fit to each other. The bathroom is old as well, the newest part was the soap dispenser, I guess. Taking a shower is generally ok (warm water and enough pressure) as long as your neighbour room is not taking a shower at the same moment. The staff is present but there is, unfortunately, no service. Anytime you got the feeling that you are disturbing them. You better speak Spanish. Staff seems to be allowed to use the pool after work (at least one of the bar keepers). Strange rule for a 4**** hotel Unfortunately, the food is completely overpriced. Medium quality combined with a long time of waiting. The breakfast was the poorest one during our whole holiday in Costa Rica. Bad cooked coffee (the re-fill cup mostly cold), no fresh juice and only one choice from the menu. Normally you get all 5 offered choices as breakfast in every other hotel/lodge/hostel. In the evening you get deep-frozen vegetables accompanying your fresh tuna steak. The tuna steak was good, the sides not. You will get it for at least 2/3 in down town Uvita accompanied with fresh vegetables. All in all, what a pity. Such a nice location and nobody able to offer the needed quality for a good experience. The first bad experience with a TripAdvisor hotel with a valuation >=4 in my lifetime. For a much lower price this would have been fine. USD 127,- per night is not acceptable for the offered service. The photographs are better than the reality.
My suggestion: For getting the view on the whale-tale just go there for a beer as a visitor.

I had a very bad experience in the Vista Ballena Hotel . Very sad and disappointing .

I do travel very often all over the world .I love nature .I’ve been in Costa Rica many times staying always different hotels resorts and I always had a great time good experience ,that’s why I keep coming back to Costa Rica because I love it beautiful country beautiful people .

But this time fortunately I choose the very bad place the VISTA BALLENA I stayed three nights in this hotel hoping I will have Beautiful stay .

But turns out it was a nightmare .
The hotel itself has a beautiful view in the middle of the jungle .

My room was facing to the ocean the view was beautiful but the bathroom was full of mildew and Smelled like mud the towels in the bathroom was like a rag to wash the car very old and low-quality the floor was filthy all over the room I have to wear shoes to walk around so my socks doesn’t get dirty . In my cabinets and under the bed I find huge ugly spiders . My room was away from the front desk in the middle of the jungle at night around my rooms was dark you couldn’t see anything several times I heard someone walking around my balcony trying to open my door I was trying to reach for help calling the front desk but the Hotel phone was not working in the room I had no Wi-Fi so I was on my own it was a horrible night .

The worst thing is there is no security guard in the whole property In the middle of the jungle .

The employees including the manager in this property very unprofessional rude .
They don’t make you feel welcome ,they just want your money and then you’re on your own help yourself don’t bother us kind of attitude .

At the breakfast table I asked for extra coffee the waiter Give me angry face and half hour later he showed up with a half cup of coffee saying nothing Left it on the edge of the table .
Nobody is smiling everybody’s rude I was wondering why they are working in this kind of business they have no feeling they have no idea how to treat people .

I was planning to complain when I was checking out but I change my mind because no one Will listen anyway and probably they will not even understand why I am complaining they have no idea what’s going on they just have a job .

So if you wanna stay in a place where you’re not welcome and where your life is in danger and your health and if you want To be around with Unprofessional rude people choose this place, but remember if you check into this property you are on your own and you pay for it

Excellent food, incredible views of the whale's tale, and the service was also excellent. Food above average, and great presentation.

Staff let our children swim while we ate our meal the pool is also excellent for the whole family! I haven't seen the rooms, but the restaurant and service were stellar. Recommended!

English is spoken here no problem at all.
