A lovely place, and I really wanted to rank it higher. Should be 3.5. Beautiful setting, gorgeous ocean view, we saw monkeys from the balcony. 5 minutes drive from the park and beaches. Big one bedroom unit. Full kitchen with full size fridge. They do advertise as having air conditioning but the unit is only in the bedroom (granted, most important place to have it), making the rest of the beautiful space hard to inhabit during the day. That was a big deal for us, we specifically wanted AC. If this isn't important for you, don't hesitate to stay here, if you're in the MA area. Also, no basics like shampoo (be sure to bring your own) or napkins in the kitchen.

Good place to stay in Manuel Antonio. Big and clean rooms with small kitchen and fridge. Nice balcony. For extra price possible to get a room with the ocean view. But rooms withing it are amazing as well. Nice pool. It would be great if Villas Nicolas had a bar.

Beautiful settings with incredible views from the deck/balcony. Great and very helpful staff, and the breakfast was simple but very good and satisfying. Recommended tours and tour guides were excellent. Very close (walking distance) to some great restaurants and a few minutes from the park entrance. Monkeys and birds in the surrounding trees -- with white-faced monkeys making a daily trek across our deck. Our only "complaint" is that the howler monkeys in the trees do wake us up early!

This was my first visitand wow. What a place! Amazing rooms and views. I felt like we were alone in the forest. The design and landscaping were perfect. I will definitely return and recommend to others.

Stayed 4 nights renting two cottages. Amazing all around. You come in from a hectic trip or adventure to a very safe beautiful haven. The gardens are spectacular. Both villas set up like a studio w stepdown sitting area with a kitchen which was fully stacked, from blender to toaster to silverware plates glasses. There is nothing that we needed that was not provided. This gave us an opportunity to cook a few meals. Beyond the kitchen you step out to a fantastic patio with a hammock table sitting area and the most breathtaking view of the Pacific. The pool was gorgeous with very warm soothing water. It was very clean. Breakfast was very complete. The rooms were truly air-conditioned, Hallelujah. The price was not cheap but really worth what you payed for. The front desk will recommend specific trips for you that were not disappointing. I was beyond satisfied with my stay.

I've stayed at Villas Nicolas twice: once in 2008 and again in 2014. Obviously I'm a huge fan. The location is super convenient: the beach is a 20 minute downhill walk, or a very short and cheap bus ride. The rooms are comfortable but not super updated or fancy, but you're in Costa Rica - why would you spend a bunch of time in your room? There's a nice view of the ocean from the higher rooms, and you'll often see monkeys on your balcony. Oh, and the balconies are amazing. I highly recommend Villas Nicolas.

This place is horrible! I pre-paid for 2 nights and couldn't stand to stay for more than a few hours. When we arrived we had to carry all of our bags across the whole resort and then down 3 flights of narrow stairs. The AC was off in the very, very small room and it smelled awful.

On top of all of that we came back to the room after dinner away from the hotel to find huge COCKROACHES crawling around our room. We packed our things and left. The front desk was closed and there was only a security guard that didn't speak much English. We let him know we'd be back in the AM to check out. We returned before 10:00 AM the next day to check out and explain what happened. I even have photos from the room of these huge roaches on my phone which I showed them. The manager was not there - I checked back twice during the day and still didn't get to see her. The staff refused to refund me ANY of my money, saying that I should have complained the night before.when the front desk was closed!?

Awful, dirty, unreasonable place! If you want a nice place to stay, drive up the street to Los Altos - this is where we went after leaving this dump and Los Altos was AMAZING, and guess what - there are no bugs there!
