I have been to Villa Alegria numerous times when my friend's mother lived there. We always went unannounced and it felt comfortable the moment you entered, the staff was always friendly and happy and everything was super clean but not antiseptic smelling. The residents were always well groomed and dressed in their own clothes and those who were able could sit in the comfortable lounge area. You smelled the home cooking the moment you walked in the door and the food was delicious . It put the homes I had visited in the U.S. to shame. My friend still goes to visit the staff and even buys them Christmas presents even though her mother passed away a couple of years ago.
